Job Description:
A Respiratory Therapist (RT) is a licensed healthcare professional who specializes in the assessment, treatment, and care of patients with breathing or cardiopulmonary disorders.
They work with individuals of all ages, providing care to those with conditions such as asthma, pneumonia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), sleep apnea, and those requiring life support or mechanical ventilation.
They use a variety of techniques and equipment to manage and improve respiratory function.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients with respiratory or cardiopulmonary conditions, including reviewing medical history and performing physical exams.
- Analyze test results, including pulmonary function tests (PFTs), arterial blood gas (ABG) analysis, chest X-rays, and sleep studies.
- Collaborate with physicians to develop and implement personalized treatment plans for patients with respiratory issues.
- Adjust and monitor ventilation settings for patients requiring mechanical ventilation or non-invasive positive pressure ventilation.
Responsibilities include:
- Administering respiratory therapy treatments, including oxygen therapy, nebulizer treatments, pulmonary rehabilitation, and airway clearance techniques.
- Providing emergency respiratory care to patients experiencing respiratory failure, cardiac arrest, or other life-threatening situations.
- Assisting with intubation, mechanical ventilation, and weaning from life support when necessary.
- Educating patients and families on proper use of respiratory equipment, medications, and techniques for managing respiratory conditions at home.
- Collaborating with healthcare teams to develop holistic care plans for respiratory patients.
- Maintaining accurate and detailed records of patient assessments, treatments, medications, and progress in accordance with healthcare regulations.
Requirements:
- Licensed Respiratory Therapist (RRT) or Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT)
- Ability to work 12-hour shifts, nights
- Travel experience preferred
