Position Overview: The NDT PT Level II is a hands-on position which performs process control checks, develops techniques and assists with on-the-job training in the department. NDT PT Level II personnel are also expected to perform final inspection and maintain consistent day-to-day throughput while upholding the company’s highest standard of ethics, professionalism, and dependability.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Develop and modify part specific techniques to ensure processing is performed in accordance with applicable customer requirements and specifications.
- Unpack parts, document their as-received condition and prepare orders for inspection using predetermined criteria.
- Perform part washing and preparation for final inspection in accordance with part specific techniques.
- Interpret indications and evaluate parts in accordance with specified accept/reject criteria.
- Perform process controls to ensure the department is operating in accordance with ASTM E 1417 and customer specific requirements.
- Complete applicable paperwork for orders in-process, and track labor time using MIL’s internal software.
- Maintain proper housekeeping while adhering to applicable chemical, environmental and safety procedures.
- Provide on-the-job training to department personnel and act as a mentor for individuals working to acquire experience and knowledge of the penetrant process.
- Assist NDT and QA Management in the disposition of corrective and preventative actions, and troubleshooting.
- Level II personnel are expected to participate in NDT training programs, document hours of experience and take certification exams as required to advance their level of certification.
- Take part in company-wide training and continuous improvement opportunities toward quality assurance initiatives, company objectives and peripheral projects.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Must be a quality focused, detail-oriented, organized, self-starting individual with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to prioritize and efficiently complete tasks with consistent accuracy while adhering to customer deadlines.
- Liquid penetrant inspection is a controlled process, therefore attention to detail and care in handling customer parts and test equipment is required.
- Must demonstrate the capacity to comprehend codes, standards, specifications, blueprints and other contractual documents.
- Must have the skills to navigate Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Understand MIL’s turnaround schedule to align orders and meet customer demands.
- Demonstrate the ability to identify inefficiencies and implement continuous improvement projects.
- Assist in managing a production schedule and maintain flexibility to accommodate customer requests.
- Must possess the necessary leadership skills to direct personnel of the department and work effectively with all levels of personnel within the organization.
- Must be physically capable of being on your feet for extended periods of time and have the strength to handle parts ranging in size and weight.
Requirements
Minimum Job Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED is required.
- Must have completed 32 hours of formal instruction in liquid penetrant theory and processes.
- Must have 270 hours of documented on the job experience in liquid penetrant testing.
- Experience in a manufacturing or production environment is preferred.
Reports To: NDT PT Level II personnel report directly to the NDT PT Supervisor and interface with MIL’s Responsible Level III and NDT Manager for additional guidance.
Hours: Normal hours for this position are 7:00 A.M – 3:30 P.M. PT Level II personnel are required to maintain a flexible schedule to support the department in times of increased demand.
Compensation: Dependent on qualifications and experience, and opportunity for advancement as certifications are obtained.
