Job Summary:
Responsible for providing safety consulting services to Xcel clients, this position plays a crucial role in recognizing, monitoring, and making recommendations to correct workplace safety hazards through on-site audits, consulting, ergonomic assessments, and interventions in compliance with OSHA and other regulatory agencies. Collaborating on safety policy development and training is also a key aspect of this role. While primarily serving specific plant(s) or area(s), there may be occasions where assistance is required in other departments within the business area. Additionally, in each region, one or more individuals in this role will be tasked with administering the electric and gas public safety program.
Responsibilities:
- Stay updated on OSHA 1910 & 1926, NFPA 70E regulations
- Deepen knowledge of NESC and ANSI standards affecting utility contractors
- Master Serious Injury & Fatality (SIF) prevention strategies
- Implement best practices for energized work, fall protection, confined space entry, and trenching/excavation safety
- Lead Event Learnings for contractor incidents
- Apply Human & Organizational Performance (HOP) principles to drive proactive safety improvements
- Develop expertise in conducting in-depth contractor audits and safety observations
- Implement coaching techniques to improve contractor safety culture and accountability
- Lead storm restoration safety efforts and emergency response planning
- Ensure contractors are prepared for electrical contacts, fires, and medical emergencies
- Develop strategies to improve contractor buy-in and create a safety-driven culture
- Learn effective conflict resolution techniques to address contractor concerns
Skills:
- Advanced knowledge of OSHA regulations
- Strong understanding of NFPA standards
- Proficiency in incident investigation techniques
- Excellent communication skills for engaging with contractors effectively
Qualifications:
Previous experience in safety consulting or related field preferred
