About the role

The Director of Certification and Airworthiness will report directly to the VP of Engineering and work alongside the leadership team to execute and lead magniX’s certification, airworthiness, process assurance, and safety engineering activities. Leading the Certification and Airworthiness team, they will be responsible for the performance management and development of the individuals within the organization. The Director of Certification and Airworthiness will partner with other business leaders on various matters and contribute to developing the Company’s strategic goals and objectives.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead magniX in acquiring Type Certification, Validation, and Continued Operational Safety for magniX products.
  • Lead the development, interpretation, and understanding of the means and methods of compliance for novel products.
  • Act as a technical expert for Certification, Airworthiness, and Safety.
  • Engage with industry groups as the magniX lead and ensure proper alignment of the magniX team to standards efforts.
  • Develop and ensure engineering alignment with processes and controls required to achieve and maintain product certification.
  • Lead airworthiness, certification, safety, and regulations and standards activities on the NASA Electrified Powertrain Flight Demonstrator program and magniX’s Samson battery line
  • Serve as chair of the Safety of Flight Board for prototype products.
  • As applicable and appropriate, interact with customers and regulatory authorities to support our certification efforts and continued airworthiness.
  • Coach and mentor team members.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in an engineering, technical, or other applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience in a technical aerospace environment.
  • 10 years’ experience leading type certificate programs with the FAA and other regulatory authorities.
  • 10 years’ experience with propulsion, propulsion battery energy storage systems, electrical certification experience, aircraft systems certification, or complex systems certification.
  • 8 years’ leading cross-functional teams and working closely with various stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding and demonstrate deployment of risk management principles and practices related to aviation development programs.
  • Strong strong communication skills and technical competency and can communicate well with the highest leadership levels at customers, regulatory authorities, and industry groups.

    Applicants must be willing and able to commute to magniX's location in Everett, Washington.

  • This position's approximate base salary range is $200,000 - $230,000 per year, depending on experience and level of education.

    This position must meet export control compliance requirements. To meet export control compliance requirements, a “U.S. Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. §120.15 is required. Under §120.15, a “U.S. Person” includes U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, refugees, or asylees. As this position requires access to export-controlled data, an appropriate export authorization by the U.S. Government may be required prior to such access. Employment, and the continuity of employment of non-U.S. persons, is contingent upon the company’s ability to secure and maintain the necessary export control authorization.
