The Director of Nursing is responsible for the operation and direct supervision of the Nursing Department in accordance with the mission, vision, and core values of Magnolia Community Service, Inc. (MCS). The Nursing Department is responsible for delving basic medical care to our population of clients with developmental disabilities. Such medical care is necessary in helping them living fulfilling, independent lives.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee the scheduling of all nursing staff.
- Assigns and maintains the LPN on-call rotation schedule and is available to answer questions and/or help address emergencies.
- Manage payroll for the Nursing Department.
- Ensure that Title XIX, Waiver, and CMS regulations, as well as CARF Standards are followed as applicable to nursing.
- Oversees MARs.
- Oversee pharmacy issues.
- Communicate health concerns to appropriate administrators, case managers, and families.
- Work effectively with Magnolia’s Medical Director.
- Provide sessions in new hire orientation regarding OSHA, HIPAA, seizure protocol, blood borne pathogens, and any other areas or topics necessary or relevant.
- Participate in annual plans of care and Human Rights meetings.
- Participates in medication administration.
- Serve as member of MCS’s Safety Committee.
- Supervise LPNs and support staff, carrying out this responsibility in accordance with Magnolia’s policies and all applicable laws.
- Other related duties as assigned.
PRIMARY QUALIFICATIONS
- Must be a Registered Nurse with the state of Louisiana.
- Must have at least five years of supervisory/managerial experience.
- Must have experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities.
- Certified CPR and CMA instructor.
- Excellent customer-services attitude and experience.
- Strong interpersonal skills and positive attitude.
- Ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Excellent time-management skills.
- Management style appropriate for a non-profit organization.
- 21 year of age or older
- A valid, unencumbered Louisiana Driver’s License.
- Current automotive insurance coverage with acceptable limits as mandated by Magnolia’s insurance carrier.
- Satisfactory Motor Vehicle Records.
- Ability to pass background screening including pre-employment drug test, background check, physical, and other requirements.
- Ability to be reached for assistance when emergencies arise.
- After-hours and overtime work required as needed.
