TITLE: Infection Control Nurse
REPORTS TO: Director of Nursing
Non-Exempt
PURPOSE OF POSITION:
The primary purpose of the position is to coordinate and operate within the Magnolia Manor’s Infection Prevention & Control Program. As an Infection Control Nurse you are delegated the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties.
ROLE and RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Report information related to our facility’s infection prevention control policies and practices to the Administrator and the Quality Assurance Performance Improvement Committee.
2. Performs on-going monitoring of healthcare associated infections
3. Collect, analyze and provide infection and antibiotic usage data and trends to nursing staff and health care practitioner; consult on infection risk assessment and prevention control strategies; provide education and training; and implement evidenced-based infection prevention and control practices based on the Facility Assessment.
4. Responsible for monitoring and ensuring facility compliance with Antibiotic Stewardship program.
5. Manage Outbreak control. Report outbreaks to the proper authorities. Implement proper precautions. Educate staff.
6. Oversee Staff and Resident Education Program. Identify infection control education needs for the facility.
7. Implement isolation precautions as necessary. Educate staff on proper precautions needed for each situation. Educate staff on proper PPE usage and storage.
8. Oversee Resident Health program. Facility specific protocols for PPD, Flu Vaccine, and Pneumonia Vaccine. Administer vaccines as necessary. Documentation of Vaccinations. Follow up to make sure residents vaccines are being given in a timely fashion. Educate residents and families of the importance of vaccinations in a healthcare facility.
9. Conduct TB Risk Assessment.
10. Review the Infection Prevention and Control Program annually and as needed.
11. Assist with the development of new IPCP policies and the revision of current policies as needed.
12. Shall keep abreast of changes in infection prevention and control guidelines and regulations to ensure the facility’s protocols remain current and aid in preventing and controlling the spread of infection.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must possess a current, unencumbered, active Georgia LPN or RN state license.
2. Must be knowledgeable of nursing and infection prevention and control protocols and practices, as well as law, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to long-term care.
3. Must be able to push, pull, and move a minimum of 50 pounds.
