As an Automation Technician, you will be responsible for the automation, SCADA and communication systems and equipment across the company’s field assets. In this role, you are required to execute software configurations and programming to plan, design, and install automation solutions, all while maintaining, training, and modifying the system and its components to full-service capacity. To be successful in this role, you must have experience with instrumentation, SCADA and electronic systems, along with an understanding of oil and gas pumping and production equipment. Given the importance of reducing downtime, this role demands you are open to periods of on-call status.

Responsibilities
- Ensure company safety and environmental policies and procedures are known and followed by yourself and contractors.
- Ensures that all automation equipment, including safety devices and systems are functioning properly.
- Plans and conducts independent work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application, and adaptation of new systems.
- Designs, assembles, installs, and maintains automation systems, instrumentation wiring, and equipment using computer software and tools.
- Diagnoses malfunctioning systems and instrument components and equipment to locate the cause of a breakdown and correct the problem. Push improvements across the field as need be from lessons learned.
- Work to provide solutions to improve the productivity of the pumper team.
- Manages networking TCP/IP, instrumentation calibrations, wireless instrumentation, and solar powered system.
- Will assist other team members in malfunction diagnostics and maintenance as needed on operating equipment.
- Performs daily production system monitoring to identify any potential risks and ensure prompt evaluation of errors.
- Recognizes and corrects unsafe acts or conditions and/or stops work.
- Works professionally with the entire field team including pumpers and foreman, engineers, industry specialists, programmers, and contractors.
- At least 5 years' experience as an automation, instrumentation, or process controls technician, required.
- High School Diploma or GED, required.
- An active/unrestricted driver’s license and safe driving record is required for this position, required.
- Ability to work with mathematical concepts in practical situations.
- Strong analytical and reasoning skills including ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
- Experience: RTU's, EFM's, VFD's, PLC Programming (Idec, ScadaPack, Allen Bradley), Communication protocols & radio communications.
- Familiarity and ability to enter, monitor and evaluate data within with operations management systems (Production: Ignition or similar SCADA systems, Merrick/Evin).
- Understand relationships between database, programs, and GUI systems.
- Self-motivated with ability to work both independently and within teams in order to establish and meet deadlines, goals, and objectives.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills required.
- Proficiency in the use of Windows and Microsoft Office based programs and diagnostic programs required.
- Regularly works around chemical and mechanical systems and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity. Noise level may be loud at times.
- Must be able to move objects and use abdominal and lower back muscles to lift and move equipment and/or pipes, provide support over time without fatigue.
- Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination and stamina.
- Frequently operates a computer, hand and power tools, and other equipment.
- Occasionally ascends/ descends stairs and/or ladders to inspect and/or install equipment on production equipment.
