JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION TITLE: Care Giver
SUPERVISOR: Administrator, Director of Nursing Care, and/or other member of management team.
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must be at least 18 years of age.
2. Completion of elementary education or otherwise show ability to read, write, and follow oral and written directions.
3. Have the ability to care for the elderly in a positive, caring, and compassionate way. To report any knowledge of activity associated with Magnolia Place that is of an illegal, unethical, abusive, or in violation of state regulations.
4. Be capable of taking BP and temperature. Be able to pass medications per state regulations using the approved method of Magnolia Place.
5. Must have a working knowledge of good housekeeping procedures, techniques, supplies and equipment.
6. Must be able to maintain a positive attendance record.
ILLUSTRATIVE FEATURES OF WORK:
1. With cooperation of other services (activities and dietary) cares for the residents and their quarters, makes beds, changes linens, checks all areas of resident rooms, bathrooms, and utility areas daily. Cleans room thoroughly, weekly as scheduled, cares for personal effects, assists with dressing or bathing as needed, serves meals, assists with medication, advises supervision of unusual circumstances or behavior of resident.
2. Thoroughly cleans each room, bed, closet, etc. as occupant changes and prepares each room for a new resident.
3. Maintains cleaning cart with supplies and equipment and assists in maintaining stockroom. Cleans and restocks cleaning cart as needed.
4. Sees that shower curtains and shower mats are removed, cleaned and replaced as needed.
5. Recognizes and interprets symptoms and/or behavior of residents and assists with restorative measures.
6. Take BP and temperature if ordered by physician and record.
7. Assists in maintaining personal files of residents, maintains, and assures comfort and safety of residents in an orderly and therapeutic environment.
8. Able to work my printed schedule and to be aware of scheduling changes due to sickness or other emergency of my co-workers, work “off” days when scheduled, to reasonably cooperate with management on any scheduling as needed to properly care for residents.
9. Participates in resident activities to assure maximum participation of the residents; assist in activities to the extent that time and conditions warrant.
10. Records daily observation of resident in daily report book if anything unusual happens, changes in medication, anything that the following shift needs to be aware of.
11. Performs other tasks and duties as special situations and circumstances warrant. Provides assistance with ADL care as residents may require, I.e. bathing, and dressing, assistance with hygiene needs.
12. Communicates with families and doctors concerning medications when necessary. That communication might be regarding the need to reorder, or issues regarding side effects or observations of reactions to or improvements from the medication and to perform any work related task that is asked of me.
PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
1. Walking, reaching, bending, lifting, grasping, fine hand coordination, pushing and pushing and pulling, and the ability to distinguish smells, tastes, and temperatures as needed or any other duties assigned by the management team.
2. Ability to communicate with residents, residents’ families and friends, and co-workers with kindness and respect. Ability to hear and respond to the call light and alarm, ability to read, write, and speak in English and ability to remain calm under stress.
