Job Description
Provide leadership in program evaluations and follow-up procedures.
Write/develop federal projects, state facility and equipment projects.
Coordinate integration of special education into the total school program.
Provide leadership in curriculum development.
Work to maintain good public and community relations.
Interview instructional candidates for Special Education areas and make recommendations to principals for appointments to positions.
Procure and distribute new, specialized materials and equipment.
Supervise record keeping of students in the program.
Coordinate staff conferences and orientation meetings.
Interact with parents, outside agencies, businesses and community to enhance the understanding of system initiatives and priorities and to elicit support and assistance.
Keep supervisor informed of potential problems or unusual events.
Serve on system, state or community councils or committees as assigned or appropriate.
Assist in the interpretation of programs, philosophy and policies of the system to staff, students, parents and the community.
Work closely with school staff to support school improvement initiatives and processes.
Keep informed and disseminate information about current research, trends and best practices in areas of responsibility.
Facilitate the development, implementation and evaluation of staff development activities in assigned areas.
Attend training sessions, conferences and workshops as assigned or appropriate to keep abreast of current practices, programs and legal issues.

$70000 - $95000 / year
B.A. or B.S. degree
Masters degree preferred
CA Credential as Education Specialist with mild/moderate or severe designation
Knowledge of special needs of students in assigned area
Knowledge of IEP goal setting process and implementation
Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
California Commission on Teacher Credentialing certificate, permit or other documentation equivalent to what a special education teacher in other public schools would be required to hold
Highly Qualified in accordance with the No Child Left behind Act
Salary : $70,000 - $95,000
