What are the responsibilities and job description for the Admissions Clerk PRN position at MAGNOLIA REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER?
POSITION SUMMARY: This position performs registration for all patient types including the Emergency Room, Outpatient, Inpatient, and Ambulatory areas. This position involves, but is not limited to, speaking with patients, verifying insurance, validating patient demographics, collecting patient responsibility amounts, and utilizing our electronic medical record system. The registration hours will include morning, night, weekend and overnight hours depending on the need to fill open shifts. This position will report to the Admissions Manager and the Director of Revenue Cycle. MRMC looks forward to meeting with you about this position.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Greet patients in a courteous manner when registering patient for services and or admissions into the facility.
2. Interact with patients to obtain all pertinent information for complete demographic and registration accuracy.
3. Verify insurance and other eligibility criteria.
4. Collect co-pays, co-insurance, deductibles, etc., when application prior to services being rendered for OP services.
5. For ED registrations, collect after the patients have been appropriately triaged and assessed, any process thereof would violate EMTALA.
6. Communicate patient rights, billing and payment procedures to patients and their families.
7. Prepare and process all admitting forms related to the patient admission.
8. Provide support to administrative and clinical areas by answering phones, routing calls, providing general information, and direct patients and/or visitors to their service areas by use of switchboard.
9. May contact referring providers regarding services to ensure all medical information is obtained in order to provide service to the patient.
10. Assist with reports, processing mail, scanning and other general office duties.
11. Cross train in all areas of registration.
12. May be asked to fill in or work when shortages happen.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education and Training:
Must be a high school graduate or GED
Qualification Requirements:
· Knowledge of insurance verification experience for Medicare, Medicaid, Commercial Insurance, and Managed Care Insurance
· Maintain high level of confidentiality
· Working knowledge of MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook
· Working Knowledge of CPT, ICD-9 and ICD-10 Codes
· Understanding of: Deductibles, Co-Insurance, Out-of-Pocket expenses, and benefit exclusions
· The ability to multi-task and handle multiple responsibilities
· Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal skills
· Ability to work independently and as part of a team to achieve the goals
· Great attention to detail
· Experience working with in CPSI and RCM is a plus
· Must be dependable and on time
Experience:
Prefer at least one year of experience of customer service; hospital registration is a plus
