What are the responsibilities and job description for the Diesel Technician position at Magnum Companies?
The Diesel Technician is responsible for routine and preventative maintenance, diagnosing and repairing of diesel engine semi-tractors and trailers.
- Oversee advanced diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on tractors and trailers.
- Serve as the subject-matter expert for complex technical issues within the shop department.
- Perform repairs such as HVAC, ABS, aftertreatment diagnosis and repairs, APU’s, communication and tracking systems.
- Collaborate with management to develop maintenance schedules and prioritize repairs to minimize vehicle downtime.
- Conduct quality control checks on repairs performed by team members to ensure compliance with company and regulatory standards.
- Performs, trains, and mentors entry-level and mid-level team members, fostering skill development across the department.
- Proactively research and implement industry best practices and emerging technologies
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and company policies while handling tools and chemicals.
- Qualified to perform OEM warranty work.
Seeking an individual who has:
- Mechanical knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
- Technical knowledge of electronic equipment, computer hardware, and software used to diagnose vehicle issues.
- A solid grasp of local, state, and federal DOT laws, policies, and procedures for protecting people, data, property, and institutions.
- Familiarity with transportation principles and methods for moving goods by road, including the relative costs and benefits.
- Time management skills for self and others.
- The ability to communicate with other tractor shop employees and supervisors to rectify problems such as missing parts and time constraints.
Education/Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent and Diesel Engine Specialist or related degree from a secondary institution.
- Five years of experience is required.
- Commercial Driver’s License is preferred but not necessary.
