What are the responsibilities and job description for the Driver Success Coordinator position at Magnum Companies?
The Driver Success Coordinator is crucial in developing and preparing new drivers for success while being responsible for leading over-the-road (OTR) orientation, managing the driver trainer/trainee program, providing fuel management, and providing ongoing mentorship to ensure all new drivers transition smoothly into Magnum. This role requires a strong focus on driver performance, safety, compliance, and retention while fully supporting trainees and trainers. Acting as a central point of contact for all trainers, this position will work closely with recruiting, operations, and safety teams to build a thriving training culture.
Seeking an individual who can:
New Driver Orientation and Training Program Management:
- Lead weekly OTR orientation sessions to introduce new drivers to company policies, safety standards, hours-of-service regulations, electronic logging device (ELD) usage, and operational procedures.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for new drivers while onboarding, providing guidance and addressing concerns.
- Facilitate hands-on training on safe driving practices, trip planning, and best-in-class customer service.
- Assign newly licensed CDL drivers to trainers and oversee their progress throughout the training program.
- Evaluate training effectiveness and continuously update the curriculum to align with industry best practices.
- Ensure a seamless transition from training to solo driving by preparing new drivers for the road ahead.
Trainer and Trainee Performance, Engagement, and Retention:
- Internally recruit, onboard, and mentor trainers to ensure they are equipped to develop new drivers effectively.
- Conduct regular check-ins with trainers and trainees to track progress, address challenges, and promote a positive experience.
- Monitor performance metrics and work with trainers to improve trainee readiness.
- Implement driver retention strategies to ensure trainers and new hires feel valued and supported.
- Recognize top trainers and successful trainees to encourage a culture of excellence.
Fuel Management:
- Provide real-time monitoring and performance telematics for drivers. Develop real-time feedback for drivers and report for operational management.
- Coach drivers on fuel management factors, including cruise control, top gear usage, following distances, accelerating and braking behavior, proper routing techniques, trip planning, and maintenance indicators.
- Coach drivers on fuel improvement techniques.
- Directly impact the fleet's operational efficiency by improving cost savings and contributing to Magnum's broader sustainability goals.
Operational Support and Collaboration:
- Work closely with Recruiting to ensure the availability of trainers to support recruiting needs and that new hires are assigned appropriate trainers.
- Partner with Operations to optimize the utilization of trainers and new drivers.
- Report on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) related to driver training success, trainer effectiveness, and new driver retention.
Education/Experience:
- An associate's degree in business, logistics, or a related field is preferred.
- 5 years of experience in OTR, driver management, training, logistics, or fleet management preferred.
- CDL or prior truck driving experience preferred.
- Strong leadership, coaching, and communication skills with the ability to motivate and engage others.
- In-depth knowledge of DOT regulations, FMCSA guidelines, hours-of-service compliance, safety standards, and transportation management systems (TMS).
- Ability to develop and manage training programs and multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
- Proficient in technology and training tools, including ELD systems.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods continuously.
- Ability to talk, hear, and see continuously.
- Ability to lift and/or carry up to 25 lbs.
- Ability to travel as required.
