What are the responsibilities and job description for the Service Technician position at Magnum Companies?
The Service Technician is responsible for routine and preventative maintenance on diesel engine semi-tractors and trailers.
- Conduct routine and preventative maintenance tasks as needed on tractors and/or trailers.
- Perform basic inspections and report potential issues to supervisors.
- Follow checklists to ensure all routine maintenance tasks are completed accurately.
- Troubleshoot and repair defects found during services or while addressing a driver complaint.
- Assist in maintaining a clean and organized workspace, including tool and equipment management.
- Provide support and train with more experienced technicians during repairs and diagnostics.
- Ensure compliance with safety standards and company policies while handling tools and chemicals.
- Work as a team to help keep Magnum’s equipment safe and running smoothly.
Seeking an individual who has:
- Mechanical knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
- Technical knowledge of electronic equipment, computer hardware, and software used to diagnose vehicle issues.
- A solid grasp of local, state, and federal DOT laws, policies, and procedures for protecting people, data, property, and institutions.
- Familiarity with transportation principles and methods for moving goods by road, including the relative costs and benefits.
- Time management skills for self and others.
- The ability to communicate with other tractor shop employees and supervisors to rectify problems such as missing parts and time constraints.
Education/Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Diesel Engine Specialist or equivalent degree preferred but not necessary.
- Two years of experience in a complementary position preferred but not necessary.
- Will provide training for entry-level technicians.
- Commercial Driver’s License is preferred but not necessary.

- Floors may be slippery, and hoses will be used with equipment on the floors.
- Class A Commercial Driver's License preferred.
