What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lab Manager position at Magnum Magnetics Corporation?
Nature of Work:
The primary responsibility of this position involves prioritizing lab projects, formulating, color matching and quality control. Having the knowledge and ability to multitask between lab/QC functions to working in production, and loading finished material on trucks. Using technical expertise to further improve MIC ink/coating chemistries and product offerings. This will also include managing regulatory information, generating SDS’s/TDS’s, managing customer chemical assurance forms and analyzing regulatory information to comply with customer requirements. Secondary responsibilities will include growing sales in accordance with Policy Deployment initiatives. This includes growing sales in Narrow Web Label, Flexible Packaging, Corrugated and Rod Coating market segments.
Examples of Work:
- Thorough understanding of the industry dynamics in Rod coating, flexible packaging, NWL and corrugated segments
- Generate SDS, TDS, and applicable regulatory statements related to water base and energy curable products.
- Provide Technical support to new and existing customers.
- Provide formulation assistance to the Lab.
- Assist in the creation of Safety Data Sheets, Chemical Assurance Forms and Compliance documentation.
- Assist the Sales and Marketing departments in identifying product value differentiators.
- Performs other duties assigned by management.
- Travels to visit customers and prospects. (10-20% of time on average).
- Attends industry trade shows and selected market buyer/seller collaborative events as needed.
- Performs administrative functions for existing customers when necessary.
- Communicates Sales and R&D activity/forecasting on a monthly basis with management/production.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent organizational skills with proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience formulating water-based and energy curable flexographic inks.
- Effective communication skills both orally and in writing.
- Strong interpersonal relationship skills; ability to establish and maintain rapport with customer.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others, both internal and external.
- Strong problem solving skills; selling value added products and services in a competitive environment.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment.
- Solid time management skills that allow the individual to schedule their time to meet new business growth objectives.

- Ability to work extended hours as needed.
- Ability to occasionally travel overnight.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum 3-5 years’ experience in the inks and coatings industry or similar field preferred.
