SUMMARY
The Mechanical Design Engineer collaborates with Project Managers, Application Engineers, and Production Team to create detailed systems and equipment layouts and drawings. The technical documentation must be prepared in a manner that will ensure adherence to established specifications, industrial standards, and scope of work.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Create top level system layouts utilizing Magnum and buyout equipment.
- Create system and equipment installation drawings.
- Create assembly drawings with bills of materials and related part drawings for fabrication.
- Prepare approval drawings for internal reviews and reviews by customers.
- Become a resource for new product development and existing equipment improvements.
- Assist with manufacturing instructions and O&M documentation.
- Continuously collaborate with production team during design and equipment assembling phases.
- Resolve design inquiries from manufacturing or project managers in a timely and resourceful manner.
- Follow company standards and regulations related to Health and Safety.
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned, including special projects.
QUALIFICATIONS
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
- 4-5 years' experience in material handling systems and general mechanical design in machines and mechanisms.
- 3-5 years' experience in production and parts fabrication and machine assembling.
SKILLS REQUIREMENTS
- Critical-thinking skills. Closely work with engineers and other professionals to spot and effectively resolve technical problems with plans and designs.
- General knowledge in engineering terminology, materials, and drafting standards.
- Proficient with Autodesk Inventor and Vault Pro.
- Solid understanding of parts fabrication, equipment assembling, and familiarity with manufacturing processes.
- Detail oriented. Must pay close attention to details so that the plans they are helping to build are technically accurate to the specifications outlined.
- Interpersonal skills. Work closely with engineers and other teams to ensure final plans are accurate. Requires the ability to take advice and constructive criticism, as well as offer to others.
- Time-management skills. Must work efficiently while under strict deadlines to produce the required output according to set schedules.

- This position operates in a professional office setting and involves working with computer-aided design 9CAD) software, performing calculations, and collaborating with teams. This role may have additional physical requirements beyond standard office-based tasks due to involvement in production, prototyping, and testing.
- The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to the manufacturing or testing areas, which may require the use of PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) such as safety glasses with side shields, gloves, helmets, hearing protection, and safety footwear.
- The performance of this position may involve exposure to high temperatures or hazardous materials in some environments.
Physical Requirements
- Sitting: Primarily a sedentary position, involving extended periods of sitting working with CAD software, analyzing designs, and performing calculations.
- Standing and Walking: Frequent movement may be necessary in manufacturing facilities or workshops.
- Manual Dexterity: Frequent reaching and finger dexterity are essential for using a keyboard, mouse, or other input devices for CAD software, detailed design work, and documentation.
- Lifting and Carrying: Occasional lifting and carrying may be required, typically 25-50 pounds, for tasks like moving components, prototypes, tools, or equipment.
- Climbing and Bending: May need to climb stairs, ladders, or scaffolding to inspect large machinery or systems.
- Kneeling and Crouching: Required for accessing and inspecting machines, assembly lines, or installations.
- Hearing and Speaking: Clear verbal communication is crucial for discussing designs, troubleshooting issues, and coordinating with production teams. Good hearing ability is essential for understanding instructions, especially in noisy environments.
- Visual Acuity: Strong close visual acuity is needed to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, schematics, view computer screens, and work on detailed designs. Working with prototypes, models, or physical components may require precision handling.
Travel Requirements
- Occasional out-of-area (between plant locations) and overnight travel will be expected.
