Estimator/Project Manager

Mago Construction Company is a family-owned and operated construction contractor and materials producer based out of Bardstown, KY with site grading, asphalt paving, road and utility construction operations throughout the state of Kentucky.

Job Overview

We seek to add an Estimator-Project Manager to our team. The ideal candidate will provide management oversight for all phases of construction projects, including but not limited to preparing takeoffs and estimates, managing personnel, materials, and equipment while ensuring Company policies are followed, quality and specification standards are met, and that work proceeds safely, timely, and on budget.

Qualifications

Prior experience in estimating required. Proficient working knowledge of construction and/or asphalt paving operations required. Bachelor's degree or sufficient experience directly related to requirements of the position.

Skill Sets

Ability to read/understand plan drawings and proposals, estimate projects, and see projects through from estimating to completion. Exceptional observation skills and attention to detail. Must be self-driven. Ability to multitask and set priorities. Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment. Strong communication and leadership skills; ability to manage construction crews and other personnel. Confident problem-solving skills. Must have the flexibility and willingness to learn new skills and embrace technology.

Job Specific Functions

-Work to identify potential projects. Collect thorough information regarding potential bids or quotes in order to facilitate a well-informed estimating process.

-Execute project estimation and bidding. Review project details, plans and specifications. Conduct site visits to properly inspect, survey, and measure potential projects. Contact vendors and subcontractors in order to establish pricing and timing.

-Ability to figure areas, volumes, slopes, tonnages, convert units and rates.

-Communicate project specific needs timely to appropriate parties.

-Ensure proper safety procedures are followed.

-Layout project limits (string edges, layout joints, etc.).

-Oversee execution of work in a safe, timely, and efficient manner. Troubleshoot; answer questions, give directions.

-Maintain thorough understanding of daily production rates and costs including materials, labor, and equipment.

-Invoice completed work; finalize and close project file.

-Maintain and develop working relationships with state and government officials along with private and commercial customers.

-Maintain understanding of service markets.
