Role Overview :

Our North American Natural Resources Client is seeking an HSEQ Director due to an upcoming retirement.

The Director of Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality (HSEQ) is responsible for leading, developing, and overseeing the implementation of HSEQ policies, programs, and initiatives across multiple sites. This role ensures compliance with local, state / provincial, and federal regulations while fostering a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement within the organization. The Director works closely with senior leadership, site managers, and regulatory agencies to enhance operational performance and risk management strategies.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Strategic Leadership & Compliance
  • Collaborate with HSEQ teams, site managers, and executive leadership to align HSEQ strategies with business objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, state / provincial, and federal health, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Maintain adherence to ISO Quality and Environmental Standards and company-specific HSEQ programs.
  • Act as the primary liaison with government authorities for audits, inspections, investigations, and compliance matters.
  • Oversee industrial hygiene programs to ensure regulatory and company-wide policy adherence.

2.HSEQ Systems & Risk Management

  • Develop, implement, and maintain an integrated HSEQ Management System aligned with industry best practices.
  • Identify, assess, and control risks associated with operational activities, incorporating HSEQ considerations into procurement and planning processes.
  • Support change management initiatives to ensure safety and compliance measures are integrated into project planning.
  • Ensure contractor management processes are in place, evaluating performance, safety programs, and compliance with insurance requirements.
  • 3.Training & Team Development

  • Oversee HSEQ training programs to ensure employees and contractors meet regulatory and company training requirements.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, safety, and quality within the HSEQ teams.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and support to HSEQ personnel and site management teams.
  • 4.Incident Management & Reporting

  • Lead and support investigations of site incidents and near-miss events, ensuring corrective actions are effectively implemented.
  • Ensure effective claims management and return-to-work programs with site team collaboration.
  • Monitor and drive continuous improvement initiatives through root cause analysis and trend assessments.
  • 5.Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement

  • Drive the development and execution of policies, processes, and programs to achieve best-in-class HSEQ performance.
  • Ensure effective audit processes, supporting internal and external compliance evaluations.
  • Contribute to strategic planning and budgeting efforts related to HSEQ initiatives.
  • Qualifications & Experience :

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in HSEQ leadership roles, preferably in industrial, mining, or fast paced manufacturing sectors.
  • Strong understanding of MOL or MSHA regulations is required
  • Strong knowledge of health, safety, environmental, and quality regulations at the local, state / provincial, and federal levels.
  • Experience with ISO standards and regulatory compliance frameworks.
  • Proven ability to develop and lead high-performing teams and developing training programs.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong analytical and risk assessment capabilities.
  • Preferred Qualifications :

  • CRSP, CSP, or equivalent certification.
  • Experience managing multi-site operations and working with regulatory agencies.
  • Familiarity with HSEQ software systems and data-driven reporting.
  • Additional notes :

  • This role requires periodic travel to various operational sites across US & Canada.
  • Work may involve exposure to industrial and field environments.
