The Nurse Practitioner is a health care professional licensed to practice medicine with physician supervision. As a part of their comprehensive responsibilities, Nurse Practitioners in the Urgent Care/Occupational health setting will conduct physical exams, diagnose and treat illnesses, prescribe medication, order and interpret diagnostic tests to identify and assess the patient’s clinical diagnosis and health care needs. The Nurse Practitioner will counsel on preventive health care, educate patients about health promotion, disease prevention, lifestyle modifications, and management of chronic disease processes. The Nurse Practitioner will perform treatments/procedures within their scope of practice.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Participates in and facilitates care of the Occupational Health and Urgent Care patients.
- Is knowledgeable of medical procedures and terminology
- Obtains comprehensive patient histories.
- Performs physical examinations, including audiometry screening, routine visual screening, and pelvic, rectal, and genital-urinary examinations when indicated.
- Initiates, requests and/or performs routine laboratory, radiologic and diagnostic studies as indicated.
- Identifies normal and abnormal findings on histories, physical examinations, and commonly performed initial laboratory studies.
- Reviews health records and assesses medical conditions.
- Assesses patients.
- Develops treatment plans for patients
- Monitors the effectiveness of therapeutic interventions.
- Communicates clearly, medical information to professional practitioners.
- Provides patient education and responds to questions in a tactful and professional manner.
- Screens patients to aid the supervising physician in determining need for further medical attention.
- Performs developmental screening examinations on children as relating to nervous, motor, and mental functions.
- Provides consistent and excellent care.
- Performs care and suturing and removal of sutures of minor lacerations.
- Is knowledgeable of drugs and their indications, contraindications, dosing, and side effects.
- Removes superficial foreign bodies after consultation with the supervising physician and under his direction.
- Is knowledgeable of CPR and emergency medical procedures.
- Reacts calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Carries out or relaying the supervising physician’s orders for medication, to the extent permitted under laws pertaining to drugs.
- Performs punch biopsies of superficial lesions.
- Evidences the knowledge and ability to assess and interpret data about the patient’s growth and development in order to identify each patients’ needs and provide the appropriate care, including age-related care, where appropriate

- Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
- Displays good judgment in grooming, speech and personal hygiene. Adheres to appropriate dress codes. Wears required hospital identification badges.
- Attends hospital and departmental in-services and meetings as scheduled.
- Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions; ensures compliance with Joint Commission and other external and internal regulatory agencies.
- Maintains the integrity of confidential patient information in accordance with HIPAA and hospital policy, including accessing, using and disclosing patient information relevant to the individual employee’s job duties. Also maintains confidentiality of other customer and hospital business affairs.
- Adheres to the standards of Magruder Hospital’s corporate compliance policies and seeks guidance and training when necessary to resolve questions about the policies. Reports violations in accordance with corporate compliance and organizational standards.

- Bachelor of Science in Nursing
- Successful completion of advanced practitioner training and certification as a practitioner (general or specialized) from an approved nurse practitioner program including prescriptive authority.
- Master’s of Science in Nursing (CNP) from an accredited school
- Minimum three years of professional nursing experience in a clinical setting, plus two years of nurse practitioner experience.
Certifications and Licenses Requirements:
Required:
- Holds and maintains a current, valid Ohio Certificate of Authority to practice nursing as a CNP issued by the Ohio Board of Nursing.
- Certificate to Prescribe (CTP)
- Holds and maintains a DEA number
- Holds and maintains current clinical privileges at Magruder Hospital
- Holds and maintains a current standard care arrangement with the collaborating physician.
- Holds and maintains DOT Physical Certification (Must obtain within 6 months of hire)
- Current BLS, ACLS, PALS* Certifications
- BLS certification is required upon hire. ACLS & PALS certifications are required to be achieved as soon as possible but not later than six (6) months after hire date. All certifications required in this job description must be maintained by the employee throughout their employment.
Preferred:
- Emergency Department/Urgent Care experience
- EMR experience
