Works as an effective, patient-centered member of the nursing team under the direction of a registered nurse to provide quality nursing care.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Caregiver/care provider
- Follows hospital policies
- Coordinates with health care team members to notify of patient’s needs, including pain
- Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations.
- Assist with passing and collecting meal trays and documenting amount consumed
- Assisting with monitoring I & O and documentation of it in medical records
- Assisting RN with obtaining vital signs and immediately documenting in the medical record at the bedside
- Depending on the shift, working and assisting with providing am care and HS care to patients.
- Assists with tasks as assigned by Charge RN or Primary Care nurse
- Gives partial and complete baths in a manner providing for the patients comfort and privacy.
- Makes bed occupied and unoccupied, neatly.
- Passes meal trays/snacks, ensuring the patient is positioned properly and food is within reach.
- Feeds patient when necessary in a non-rushed, pleasant manner.
- Answers patient call lights promptly .
- Straightens room, makes sure call light and bedside stand are within patient’s reach. Provides fresh drinking water to all assigned patients.
- Uses proper body mechanics when re-positioning a patient or transferring patient from one surface to another.
- Cleans utensils and equipment properly.
- Assists with the admission and discharge of patients as requested by the nurse.
- Observant of changes in patient’s condition and reports them promptly to RN.
- Assists with oral hygiene with special attention to dentures.
- Administers catheter care following hospital procedure.
- Knows proper use and application of patient-safety devices.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the supportive equipment, which is used, on the nursing unit.
- Gives written and verbal reports, which are pertinent, precise, and complete.
- Organizes time and activities effectively for giving nursing care.
- Economical in the use of supplies and equipment.
- Observes lines of communication appropriate to the circumstance.
- Identifies need for change and initiates these to improve patient care.
- Remains composed and directive during emergency and stressful situations.
- Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions; ensures compliance with Joint Commission and other external and internal regulatory agencies.
- Maintains the integrity of confidential patient information in accordance with HIPAA and hospital policy, including accessing, using and disclosing patient information relevant to the individual employee’s job duties. Also maintains confidentiality of other customer and hospital business affairs.
- Adheres to the standards of Magruder Hospital’s corporate compliance policies and seeks guidance and training when necessary to resolve questions about the policies. Reports violations in accordance with corporate compliance and organizational standards.
- Attendance is an essential function of this position. Reports to work on time and as scheduled; Shows respect for co-workers by following established break times; Keeps personal conversations and telephone calls to a minimum.

- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) or relative clinical experience
- Excellent communication skills
- Organization/time management skills
- Computer skills
- Ability to work independently or as a team, self motivated
Preferred:
- Previous experience in an acute care facility
Certifications and Licenses Requirements:
Required:
- State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA) or relative clinical experience
- Current BLS* Certification
- BLS certification is required upon hire.
