Mahaska Ambulance is the only advanced-level ambulance service in Mahaska County. This position fulfills the role of a Paramedic in the ambulance, assists with patient care in the ED, acts as the first line of security assistance, responds to in-house codes, and performs IV starts and airway management.

Hours: Full-time: 7:00 pm - 7:00 am NO CALL (Weekend Package, includes 35% incentive)
Hours: Full-time: 7:00 am - 7:00 pm On-Call (Weekend Package, includes 35% incentive)
Pay scale ranges from $26.00 - 33.00, depending on role and level of experience and education.
Essential Job Functions, including but not limited to:
- Respond to emergency calls in a timely manner and provide immediate care to patients.
- Assess the nature and extent of patients' conditions and formulate appropriate treatment plans.
- Administer medications, including intravenous drugs, and perform advanced life support measures as required.
- Transport patients safely to medical facilities, monitoring their vital signs and condition during transit.
- Maintain equipment and supplies in ambulances, ensuring all resources are readily available and functional.
- Document all patient interactions and care provided accurately and in a timely manner following regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to facilitate comprehensive care for patients during emergencies.
- Assists with patient care in the Emergency Department and other hospital units under the paramedic scope of practice. Participates in emergency response to Code Blue events, Rapid Response requests, and Dr. Strong requests.
Requirements, including but are not limited to:
- High School diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- Current State of Iowa EMT-I or AEMT certification.
- Current State of Iowa Paramedic certification.
- Required to be current in BLS (Basic Life Support) and ALS (Advanced Life Support) by the standards of the American Heart Association.
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) and PHTLS (or within 1 year of hire).
- Valid and unrestricted and appropriate Iowa Driver License.
- Required to show proof of having completed Mandatory Reporter course at the time of hire or attend within 6 months of start date.
- Must adhere to all training requirements as mandated by Federal, State, and Professional licensure and regulatory standards.
