Essential Job Functions include but are not limited to:
- Conduct overnight polysomnographic studies in a sleep laboratory and home sleep testing as needed.
- Prepare equipment and ensure all sensors are appropriately placed for accurate data collection.
- Monitor and document patient behavior and physiological data during sleep studies.
- Analyze PSG data and generate reports to assist in the diagnosis and management of sleep disorders.
- Collaborate with physicians and other healthcare professionals to interpret study results and recommend appropriate interventions.
- Educate patients on sleep disorders and the importance of sleep health while providing support throughout the testing process.
- Educates patients with probable diagnosis and treatment options.
- Maintain equipment and ensure compliance with safety and procedural guidelines to guarantee high-quality testing environments.
- Remains current in new advances in sleep medicine, including procedures, equipment, and legislation.
- Proficient in properly titrating CPAP/Bi-level pressure management and advanced sleep disorder treatment procedures.
- Follows protocol for the titration of oxygen. Calibrates equipment before use.
- Keeps accurate records of patients, equipment, and charges.
- Recognize and respond appropriately to patient's medical problems and physiological events, especially cardiac dysrhythmias, respiratory events, and seizures.
- Ensure the safety and welfare of all patients, including those patients with special needs. Ability to read and understand SDS sheets. Ability to handle hazardous material.
- Consider the needs of the individual when performing procedure/setting up modality, i.e., speaks slower and/or louder while working with an elderly patient, or comforts the mentally handicapped individual. Takes the emotional and spiritual needs of the patient into consideration while performing the test.
- Implement and document quality assurance activities to ensure optimum performance in all aspects of the sleep lab.
- Participates in QA/QI/PI activities.
- Must be able to perform the physical demands of the job.

Requirements include but are not limited to
- Graduate of AMA-approved School of Sleep Medicine, Respiratory Care and/or two years EEG experience preferred.
- Prior training as a nurse, EEG technologist, respiratory care practitioner, pulmonary function technologist, or other allied health professional is preferred.
- Membership in one or more professional associations related to sleep/wake technology is preferred: American Association of Sleep Technologists (AAST), American Society of Electroencephalographic Technologists (ASET), American Sleep Disorders Association (ASDA), or American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC).
- License/Certificate preferred: CRT, RRT, RPSGT, CRSGT, REEGT, RST, SDS or CCSH.
- Previous experience working as a Polysomnographic Technician in a healthcare setting is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of sleep disorders and related treatment modalities is essential.
- Ability to operate and troubleshoot polysomnographic equipment and technologies.
- Required to be current in BLS (Basic Life Support) by the standards of the American Heart Association.
- Required to show proof of having completed Mandatory Reporter course at the time of hire or attend within 6 months of start date.
- Must adhere to all training requirements as mandated by Federal, State, and Professional licensure and regulatory standards.
