What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Oncology position at Mahaska Health Partnership?
At Mahaska Health, we are looking for a Director of Oncology, who will be responsible for the implementation and oversight of Mahaska Health’s Oncology Department, Cancer Committee and oversight of the Tumor Board. Skills include organizational development, personnel management, budget and resource development, and strategic planning; demonstrated success developing and monitoring systems to manage both operational and programmatic work that involve high levels of collaboration within the Oncology service line. The Director of Oncology will provide leadership and management for the Mahaska Health Oncology services, cancer care team and cancer committee, ensuring the program’s effective implementation and overall success. The Director will be responsible for developing and executing the program’s strategy, creating and maintaining strategic relationships and partnerships, and ensuring alignment with cancer specific health needs and goals for Mahaska Health and surrounding regions. Provides administrative and clinical direction to ensure effective and efficient operations for designated departments working in coordination with the Chief of Clinics and Oncology Medical Director. Accountable for overseeing daily operations, general management of the department, and management of performance metrics.
Essential job responsibilities include but are not limited to,
- Provides 24/7 administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability regarding directing the activities of the department.
- Responsible for strategic planning for the department. Develops specific objectives for the service line.
- Becomes a member of the Department Director Team and attends Leadership Development Institutes.
- Determines staffing requirement. Interviews, hires, and evaluates team members. Provides coaching and/or mentoring.
- Develops annual goals and budget to support the functional infrastructure.
- Develops and nurtures clinical relationships with the Oncology team and external partners in care.
- Provides leadership for growth and development of new services in area of clinical supervision.
- Attends Tumor Board, Cancer Committee, and other Oncology meetings, as required for national standards and/or accreditation.
- Acts as Cancer Program Administrator and/or other Cancer Committee roles as assigned.
- Ensures team adherence to national standards and/or accreditation requirements.
- Manages department operations and resources to achieve overall objectives for success and growth.
- Fosters working relations with the medical profession and other health related facilities/organizations through formal and informal working agreements.
- Ensures high quality, patient-centered care is provided by all members of the Oncology team.
- Develops, implements, and evaluates oncology policies and procedures.
- Performs annual evaluations for oncology team. Provides timely feedback throughout the year as needed to improve team performance.
- Manages departmental budgets and resources.
- Remains current on advancements in oncology and assists in the integration of new treatment methods into patient care.
- May assist team with clinic flow and facilitating patient care.
Job Requirements include but are not limited to,
- Bachelor’s degree in nursing, Healthcare Administration, or related field required.
- Five years of healthcare management experience preferred.
- Previous managerial or supervisory experience of an Oncology program/department preferred.
- Experience with national oncology standards and/or accreditation preferred.
- Experience with quality improvement and project management preferred.
- Financial knowledge and experience with budgetary planning preferred.
