What are the responsibilities and job description for the House Supervisor - RN (Overnights) position at Mahaska Health?
At Mahaska Health the RN - House Supervisor is responsible for all Nursing Services and Emergency Services for their shift by providing continuity in decision making and quality excellence in nursing practice to ultimately assure safe, competent, patient care. The House Supervisor is authorized to act in the absence of the Director of Nursing utilizing executive assistance when warranted.
Hours : Full-time Overnights (7 : 00pm - 7 : 00am) ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS :
- Assumes responsibility for overall nursing care of patients during their shift.
- Collaborates with Nursing Directors for optimal patient care.
- Interprets and upholds standards of care and policies when needed.
- Plans and maintains a safe staffing pattern for patient care areas, meeting continuity of care and acuity level needs; collaborates with ancillary staff and providers, as necessary, to meet this goal.
- Assumes the role of patient advocate when necessary.
- Is familiar with all nursing departments and is able to assist when necessary. Assumes the role of clinical resource person when necessary or finds necessary resources.
- Coaches and mentors' staff in meeting the mission and core values of MHP; provides a positive role model to all staff.
- Expresses concerns to appropriate directors in a timely manner and provides documentation when necessary.
- Provides leadership during code and disaster situations in the absence of Administration.
- Assists with organizing and evaluating staff orientation when necessary.
- Assists in open chart reviews and staff evaluations as requested by the directors.
- Provides resources from various ancillary departments when these departments are closed.
- Assist in the mentoring and orientation of new personnel to unit.
- Conduct self in accordance with Mahaska Health's confidentiality policy; ensuring to follow all MHP training guidelines in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996.
- Maintain a cooperative working relationship with employees, visitors, medical staff, and patients, keeping in mind the person's unique needs within their age category (refer to Mahaska Health's Age Specific Standards of Care Policy).
- Ability to deal with confidential information.
- Must be able to perform the physical demands of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Maintains regular and reliable attendance. Attend meetings, as requested.
