PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITY :
This Physician Leadership Position is primarily responsible for assisting with the general administration of the MAHEC Psychiatry Residency Program including those activities related to the recruitment, selection, instruction, supervision, counseling, evaluation, advancement of residents and the maintenance of records related to program accreditation. The direct supervisor for this position is the Program Director of the MAHEC Psychiatry Residency Program
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES :
NOTE : Percentages listed below represent approximate time spent, by responsibility, and are subject to change as departmental or organizational requirements dictate.
ADMINISTRATIVE - 15%
Specific responsibilities as the Assistant Director of the Psychiatry Residency Program include :
- Assist program director in selecting residents for appointment to the program in accordance with institutional and departmental policies and procedures.
- Supervise residents through explicit written descriptions of supervisory lines of responsibility for the care of patients.
- Evaluate residents' knowledge, skills, and overall performance, including development of professional attitudes consistent with being physicians.
- At least semi-annually evaluating the knowledge, skills and professional growth of the residents, using appropriate criteria and procedures.
- Communicate each evaluation to the resident in a timely manner.
- Monitor resident stress, including mental or emotional conditions inhibiting performance or learning, and drug or alcohol related dysfunction.
- Update the Program Information Form and act as liaison with the RRC for program accreditation.
- Lead the residency competency initiative as mandated by the ACGME.
- Attend the annual Psychiatry Program Director's Workshop if needed.
- Assist in other clinical, administrative duties as requested by the Program Director.
- Assist in the orientation of the new Program Director as needed.
TEACHING - 5%
EDUCATIONAL / LICENSURE AND / OR CERTIFICATION :
Licensure to practice medicine in North Carolina.
Certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology
EXPERIENCE :
Minimum of 5 years clinical, educational and administrative abilities and experience.
HUMAN RELATIONS SKILLS REQUIRED :
Frequent and intense communication with individuals inside and outside the program, to include problem resolution, negotiations, and promotion of program activities in the accomplishment of activities for which the position has primary accountability. Demonstrates appropriate service orientation in all interactions with the organization and with clients, patients and visitors. Must be a team player. Must demonstrate discretion in dealing with medical, fiscal and personnel information as is appropriate to position.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP :
Position reports administratively to the Director, MAHEC Psychiatry Residency Program.
