Mahipapa LLC is an independent power generation company that owns and operates a 7.5 MW closed loop biomass power generation facility and provides power to Kauai Island Utility Cooperative on the island of Kauai, State of Hawaii. Mahipapa’s operation includes managing and harvesting eucalyptus trees grown on Kauai, which is the sole fuel source for generating power to over 10% of homes and business on Kauai.

Mahipapa is a wholly owned subsidiary of Pacific Current, LLC, a non-regulated subsidiary of Hawaiian Electric Industries, Inc. [NYSE:HEI], a company established 2017 as part of HEI’s strategy to develop and invest in Hawaii based opportunities that serve as catalysis for a better Hawaii. Since its creation, Pacific Current has actively invested in and developed infrastructure projects in the areas of renewable energy, clean transportation and water/wastewater with the intent of being the long-term owner and operator of these projects and assets.

Job Overview
We are seeking a skilled Instrument Technician to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong mechanical knowledge and experience in industrial maintenance, with a focus on maintaining and troubleshooting various systems. This role is vital for ensuring the reliability and efficiency of our operations through the effective management of distributed control systems and low voltage equipment.

Duties

  • Maintain and repair instrumentation and control systems to ensure optimal performance.
  • Troubleshoot and detect issues within industrial equipment, providing timely solutions.
  • Collaborate with industrial electricians to support electrical maintenance tasks.
  • Utilize vision inspection systems for quality assurance checks.
  • Ensure compliance with all company and regulatory safety standards.
  • Document maintenance activities and maintain accurate records of repairs and inspections.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and calibration of instrumentation and electrical equipment to ensure they meet operational standards.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical and instrumentation issues to identify and resolve problems quickly, minimizing downtime.
  • Repairs: Execute necessary repairs or replacements of malfunctioning electrical components, control systems, and instrumentation to restore equipment to proper working condition.
  • Instrument Calibration: Calibrate and configure various instruments, including pressure transmitters, temperature sensors, flow meters, and control valves, to maintain accuracy and reliability.
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed records of maintenance activities, repairs, and equipment performance, and update maintenance logs and databases as required.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines, ensuring that all work is performed safely and that all equipment meets safety standards.
  • Emergency Response: Act promptly during emergency situations to mitigate risks and restore equipment functionality.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with engineering and operations teams to support new installations, upgrades, and modifications to instrumentation and electrical systems.
  • Training: Keep up-to-date with industry advancements and attend training sessions to enhance skills and stay current with emerging technologies.
  • Inventory Management: Maintain an organized inventory of spare parts, tools, and equipment necessary for repairs and maintenance activities.
  • Support commissioning and startup activities for new equipment and systems.
  • Conduct root cause analysis on system failures and implement corrective actions.
  • Perform regular inspections, preventive maintenance, and troubleshooting of electrical and instrumentation systems.

Experience

  • Proven experience in industrial maintenance, specifically with instrumentation.
  • Strong mechanical knowledge with the ability to operate various tools and equipment.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting electrical circuits, PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems, and various instrumentation devices. Familiarity with electrical schematics and diagrams is essential.
  • Strong commitment to safety protocols and practices to minimize the risk of accidents and injuries.
  • Capable of performing physical tasks, including lifting heavy equipment and working in various environmental conditions.
  • Relevant certifications in electrical or instrumentation technology, such as ISA Certified Control Systems Technician (CCST), are a plus.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills to interact with colleagues, engineers, and management, as well as to maintain accurate records and documentation.
  • Willingness to work shifts, overtime, and respond to emergency call-outs when required.
