Our Environmental Specialist is responsible for supporting all aspects of the environmental management system as well as plant safety efforts . This position supports a safe work environment for all employees while maintaining compliance with the international organization for standardization (ISO) guidelines, and safety-related legal requirements.
- Assist with the development, implementation, monitoring, and enforcement of environmental programs, policies, and procedures for the facility to ensure compliance with company, federal, state and local regulations.
- Research, develop, and implement the most effective environmental action plans to reduce environmental risks and improve overall metrics.
- Integrate regulatory requirements and best practices into program to improve outcomes.
- Conduct internal environmental audits/inspections in accordance with company, ISO 14001, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain recordkeeping systems such as air permits, SARA and Tier II reporting. Maintain safety data sheets for all chemicals used in the facility.
- Support all environmental systems activities to meet the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) 14001 guidelines.
- Respond, investigate, and document incidents, including waste disposal, air permitting and CO2e reduction plans. emergencies. Facilitate necessary follow-up and action items. Assist with identification of root cause, and drive implementation of corrective actions.
- Review new machinery, equipment, and plant layout changes to ensure a proactive environmental approach, and compliance with all regulations.
- Keep up to date on current and emerging local, state, and federal environmental, requirements.
- All other duties and projects as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health, Environmental Health/Science, Chemistry, Biology, or related field from an accredited four-year college or university preferred, or equivalent related experience
- A minimum of 3 years previous or related experience
- Ability to identify and solve problems, to work within deadlines with a high attention to detail, and to work independently in a fast paced, dynamic environment
- Strong business acumen and the ability to influence and develop strong working relationships with all levels of employees, including HSE colleagues and senior level management and/or executives
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation delivery
- Must have broad, basic understanding of federal, state, and local health, safety, and environmental laws and regulations
- Advanced computer skills, especially in MS Office
