Your Contribution
As a Materials Engineer you will be involved with developing, testing and selecting new materials for use in MAHLE developed products. You will also provide materials laboratory metallurgical analysis and mechanical test services to North American product engineering, plant quality, and production. The Material’s Engineer will oversee technician workflow, interface with customers, and perform key material and mechanical test analysis.
This position responsibility is focused on material selection field durability performance.
- From the group leader for the Laboratory Information Management System, receives VAMAS and Purchase Order work requests from customers.
- Performs heat exchanger metallography analysis and develops mechanical test data and issues reports to customers.
- Directs technicians.
- Develops new laboratory analysis methods and associated work instructions.
- Works with material science staff for technical knowledge and assistance on analysis reports.
- Interprets company and customer specifications and drawings as well as international standards.
- Technical resource to MAHLE operations and product engineering staff.
- Generates monthly CR booking hour spreadsheet.
- Participates in laboratory internal and external audits.
- Follows site and laboratory safety procedures.
Your Experience & Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in materials science or mechanical, manufacturing, or electrical engineering is required
- Minimum 2 years of materials engineering / materials testing experience is required; 3-5 years of experience working in a laboratory and/or R&D environment is preferred
- Knowledge of aluminum heat exchangers, heat exchanger materials and their associated corrosion science, as well as and stainless-steel materials including welding is a plus
- Metallographic sample preparation and cleanliness testing experience is preferred
- Metallurgy experience, knowledge, training and/or coursework is a plus
