Description: Full time School Nurse. Position beginning with the 2025-2026 school year. Extended contract of 15 days before school begins & 5 days after school ends. Prior to start date, additional paid training days available.
Requirements: Valid and registered Illinois R.N. License. School Nurse Certification preferred or must be willing to obtain either either School Nurse Certification or RN in Special Education training.
Duties
Immunizations and health records (physicals, immunizations, dental & vision)
Attend IEP/504 meetings for students with medical needs On call for injuries and medical questions for all buildings Attend all medical protocol meetings for students with medical issues Provide in-service for staff on medical procedures and protocols per their student's needs Provide oversight of staff conducting medical procedures to insure safety of student and staff compliance with student medical protocols, and Illinois nursing standards are met

Duties
Immunizations and health records (physicals, immunizations, dental & vision)
- Data entry for all students
- Health record filing for all students
- Compliance oversight per state mandates for all students
- Includes communication with each building's administrators & parents regarding compliance issues on a per student basis
- Enforcement of non-compliance penalties for all students in conjunction with each building's administrative staff
- Collaboration and communication with local physician's offices to share immunization data
- If appropriated, provide treatment. If beyond nursing scope, send or refer to physician
- Prepare medical protocols for each student in collaboration with parents
- Including, but not limited to: catheterization; trach care; feeding tubes; insulin draw and injection; epi pen injection
- Diabetes
- Work with families to develop appropriate protocols to reflect Diabetic Management Plan provided by the student's physician, including but not limited to:
- Determination of how much insulin is needed
- Ensuring that proper amount of insulin is drawn or entered into pump
- Oversee insulin administration (by syringe, pen or pump)
- Diabetic diet oversight (Determining carbohydrate counts & subsequent insulin amounts)
- Resource for district staff and parents to address medical questions and concerns within the scope of nursing license
- Provide occupational health initial triage and/or referral for staff injuries - insure proper paperwork is completed and submitted to human resources
- Conduct/oversee state mandated Vision and Hearing screening (certification required) for all affected students
- Conduct Vision and Hearing screenings for M-S students at Ready School and Circle Academy, Champaign
- Conduct/oversee Vision and Hearing screenings for Pre-K screening dates
- Organize and oversee free dental clinics for M-S students in need of dental care, or other clinics as needed and in collaboration with Champaign-Urbana Public Health Department
- Organize and/or conduct annual CPR/AED training for each building
- Conduct staff in-services as needed for medical protocol and equipment (see medical issues)
- Provide support for district staff and administration for situations requiring medical assistance
- Provide annual EpiPen training, and general emergency guidance for seizure, diabetes, etc. at the beginning of the year staff meetings.
- Serve as part of the district Crisis Team
- Speak to health classes about specific topics as requested by health teachers as time allows
- Conduct hand washing lessons for students as requested by teachers, and as time allows
- Speak at community events about school health issues as requested
- Additional duties as requested by Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent or Director of Student Support Services
