The Mahwah Public Library seeks an enthusiastic, customer-focused individual to join the team as a part-time Adult Services Assistant.
The Adult Services Assistant is an integral member of the adult services team, and under general direction of the Head of Adult Services, acts as a primary point of contact for our vibrant community. The successful candidate will be passionate about library services to adults and seniors, and will thrive in a collaborative, team-based environment where outstanding customer service is the norm.
Typical responsibilities include, but are not limited to: greeting patrons as they enter the department; answering patrons’ directional and informational questions; providing reading recommendations; assisting with computers and technology; promoting Library collections and services; and, processing passport applications. The Adult Services Assistant may be asked to help other responsibilities as required. In addition to being organized and technologically savvy, the Adult Services Assistant will be customer-focused and able to work effectively with other staff in order to serve the community.
The successful candidate will have a minimum of one year experience in a library or customer-centric retail, food service, or related customer service setting, possess excellent customer service skills and enjoy interacting with a varied clientele in a busy environment. The successful candidate must either possess or be able to successfully complete training to receive certification as a passport acceptance agent within two (2) weeks of hire, and possess or be able to successfully complete training to receive certification as a notary public within four (4) weeks of hire. (The Library will provide release time as needed for certifications.) Proficiency with computers is expected and familiarity with Leap and other library technology is strongly preferred.
This is a 20 hour/week part-time position, including weekday evenings and Saturdays, plus other hours as may be mutually agreeable. Ability to fill in at other times is highly desirable.
