GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION
The Controller is responsible for leading, planning, and coordinating all accounting and general ledger functions. The Controller manages the accumulation and consolidation of financial data according to generally accepted accounting principles for an accurate accounting of financial results, including the preparation of internal and external financial statements. The Controller also coordinates activities with external auditors. The Controller manages the analysis of monthly operating expense variance analyses, specifically compensation, rent, technology, tax, marketing, and others as applicable. Primary conduit to external auditors as requested to support audit process. Controller also coordinates regulatory and compliance reporting as well as monthly, quarterly, year-end and ad hoc analyses as applicable. The Controller will be responsible for leading the overall corporate accounting team including the assistant controller, accounting, and accounts receivable and accounts payable functions.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develops corporate accounting department strategic priorities and leads team members to support overall department goals and objectives.
- Leads and coordinates the compilation, analysis and review of financial information and transactions to prepare and/or approve journal entries and adjustments for month end close.
- Primary relationship contact with external auditors / leads preparation of analysis, reports and reconciliations for external audits and other reporting requirements, as applicable.
- Manages monthly, quarterly, year-end and ad hoc analysis, as applicable.
- Oversees the year-end close process - review of monthly journal entries and reconciliations including reconciliations and consolidation.
- Works closely with parent company on accounting related reporting items and implementation of changes to accounting policy
- Oversees regulatory and compliance reporting.
- Designs and implements processes and internal controls to ensure that all transactions are valid and correctly accounted for, that all accounts and financial / management reports are complete, accurate, timely etc., and that efficiency and effectiveness are maximized.
- Evaluates and maintains accounting and internal control systems.
- Oversees the monthly and quarterly financial reporting close process to ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and year-end close.
- Coordinates the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements and management of related audit support.
- Leverages financial systems and reporting process design and implementation experience to assist in evaluating the effectiveness in accounting software and supporting databases, as applicable.
- Review and implement control procedures to follow Sarbanes Oxley Section 404, as applicable.
- Identifies new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department, including process improvement opportunities for closings, as well as accounts receivable and payables processes.
EXPERIENCE/CREDENTIALS
- Minimum 7 years of progressive experience
- Prior assistant controller or controller experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance is preferred.
- CPA preferred.
