Mailstar, established in 1989, is a state-of-the-art, data driven, print & mail company in Rochester, New York. We’ve grown quite a bit over the years, and may be looking to expand in the near future! We need a team member who is it in for the long haul. We are seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented graphic designer to join our company. You will be responsible for making custom-designed print and mail pieces for our customers. In addition, you’ll be providing support for our existing Design Team in getting jobs set up for print using FusionPro. We need someone creatively driven, who can execute design concepts quickly, and effectively communicate them to customers and peers alike.
What you’ll do
- Create layouts and develop graphics for a variety of materials, including brochures, booklets, postcards, letterhead, envelopes, greeting cards, notepads, notebooks, rack cards, playing cards, social media posts, signage, and many other types of projects as needed. Experience with digital design is a must.
- Be able to decipher customer directions, and ask the right questions to get more information when needed while creating designs for customers.
- Bring innovation, creativity and freshness to our customers and company marketing, and stay on top of trends in the design profession.
- Contribute to concept development and brainstorming creative ideas for a wide range of projects.
- Work self-directed when needed. Keep track of customer communication and take the initiative to begin design work while communicating with customers directly.
- Work cooperatively in a team environment; split daily job task up equally with the rest of the design team to ensure an even spread of work load.
- Work with customers daily.
- Meet intense and challenging deadlines, manage multiple projects, balance shifting priorities and focus on solutions to improve quality and efficiency as project progresses.
- Calculate accurate timelines for project completion, and stick to them.
- Be willing to help where needed. As a small business, sometimes work load is shared amongst positions. Be flexible and ready to help wherever you’re most needed!
- Manage Mailstar’s social media accounts. Produce unique, tailored posts consistently to boost engagement and advertise our services.
Requirements
- Must have experience with Adobe suite, especially Photoshop, Illustrator, and Indesign
- Minimum 2 years design experience – able to provide examples of past work.
- Ability to multi-task and meet tight deadlines
- An eye for color – comparing and matching when needed
- Attention to detail – must be able to scan and find errors or issues visually with ease
- Proven skills in typography, layout, composition, color, and information design.
Preferred
- Associates degree or higher in graphic design or related visual communications field
- Experience with variable data printing software such as FusionPro or PrintShop Mail
- Past experience in a mail-house
- Typography skills (copy editing / writing occasionally needed)
