Main Market Co-Op is seeking part-time help as a clerk/cashier in our grocery department! This position will also encompass training with the lead grocery team to help with ordering when needed. Come be part of our team that helps sustain and supports the community!

Main Market Co-op is in downtown Spokane, and specializes in locally sourced, organic, sustainable products for our deli, bakery, and grocery store.
The grocery clerk/cashier reports directly to the grocery manager. As shift times may vary, open availability is required. The number of hours will be approximately 16-24 hours/week- to start, with the potential to be more once cross-trained in other departments. Candidates must be able to work independently and be available weekends and evenings.
Grocery clerk responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Provide excellent customer service by maintaining knowledge of inventory and taking initiative to solve customer problems
- Remain abreast of changing customer needs, and new products and trends
- Assist with customer special order requests
- Maintain, face and rotate stock in grocery department
- Receive deliveries, ensuring order and invoice accuracy
- Prioritize out-of-stock items to be stocked as quickly as possible
- Help in sustaining cleanliness of department and back-stock organization
- Assist with preparation of inventory counts for department
- Training to order products according to store needs under the direction of the grocery manager
- Cashiering and checking customers out
- Cash handling
- Basic math skills
Required Qualifications:
- Some retail and/or buying experience
- Willingness to learn
- Some familiarity with excel and POS systems
- Customer Service Experience
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to meet grocery display requirements with excellent attention to detail
- Can work autonomously
- Knowledge of food safety procedures
- Ability to lift to 50 pounds consistently and safely
- Must posses or obtain WA State Food Handler’s Card
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of natural foods and dietary restrictions
- Familiarity with grocery items and quality control
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $20.75 - $21.36 per hour
Expected hours: 16 – 24 per week
