Education and Work Experience:
• College Degree in Business Marketing
• Minimum 4 years retail experience, combination of work and education may be substituted.
• Previous experience as a supervisor preferred.
• POS system or Cash Register experience within last 6 months in a retail environment
• Daily cash reconciliation and deposit experience
Scope of Position:
The Thrift Store Manager visibly represents The Salvation Army to the community through their work, the service given to customers and donors, and the appearance of the store. The Thrift Store Manager oversees all aspects of the store's day-to-day operations. This includes processing of donations for resale and salvage, sales and display of merchandise in the store, scheduling pickups and deliveries, managing personnel, and handling records. The Thrift Store Manager will plan, organize, and direct all activities related to the responsibilities as listed below
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
Operate POS/cash register; principles of merchandizing, sales, and efficient material handling; use a computer effectively and efficiently in the working environment; use standard office machines (e.g., fax, copier, multi-line telephone, keyboard); use standard office practices and procedures; read, write, and speak the English language to express ideas and communicate effectively.
Skills required: use Microsoft software (primarily Outlook, Word to correctly create basic documents (notes, memos, emails) and reports; use basic math (add, subtract, multiply, divide); establish effective working relationships; attention to detail, operate a motor vehicle.
Ability required: Interact with individuals using generally accepted business behaviors and standards. Use interpersonal skills to deal effectively with others in favorable and unfavorable situations. Train, plan, and direct the work of others. Organize, prioritize, and plan your own work with minimal supervision. Multitask and flexibility, i.e., change work focus or respond to change of conditions and interruptions in workflow. Learn new systems and procedures. Problem solves, i.e., the ability to identify problems and find effective solutions.
Licenses and Certifications:
• Driver's License with verifiable insurance.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Schedule store employees to ensure appropriate coverage in store at all times.
2. Supervise employees in performance of duties to ensure compliance with published directives and guidelines.
3. Interview and process documents for hiring new store employees, as directed.
4. Orient and train new personnel on store policies and procedures and the level of customer service expected by The Salvation Army.
5. Issue disciplinary warnings, conference reports, employee evaluations and goals as needed in coordination with the corps officers, as directed by the Corps Officer.
6. Order supplies (and merchandise when applicable) and maintain accurate inventory on hand.
7. Ensure adequate amount of change in cash registers at the beginning of each day, safeguard cash in registers and safe at all times, bank cash receipts as per Salvation Army policy.
8. Attend scheduled staff meetings and keep thrift store personnel informed of new policies and directives.
9. Responsible for maintaining good customer relations with customers and the community. Set an example of customer relations by greeting all customers and donors and giving them prompt attention as circumstances allow.
10. Ensure safety measures are established and maintained consistent with Salvation Army policy and that hazards are properly addressed and immediately reported to the Administration.
11. Responsible for the protection of property and building.
12. Responsible for maintaining and increasing store sales as projected by budget and goals set with the corps officers.
13. Implement appropriate loss prevention measures.
14. Coordinate daily morning and shift change team meetings.
15. Responsible for oversight and intake of donations, including efficient processing, pricing, and organization of the donations on the store floor.
16. Ensure the store floor is well stocked, clean, and organized.
17. Ensure the processing room, back lot, and storage facilities are clean, organized, and free of safety hazards.
18. Oversight of recycling programs and ensures that recyclable items are being bundled or packaged according to recycling company guidelines. Schedule recycled items for pick up on an as needed basis or in accordance with recycling program guidelines.
19. Oversight of scheduling donation pick-ups and proper training of personnel regarding donation pick-ups.
20. Supervise driver and dispatch of pickups in neighboring communities. Participate in pickups as needed.
21. Responsible for intentional marketing plan, social media posting, increasing sales and general footprint in the Coos County Community for Thrift Stores.
22. Review employee timecards, make adjustments and corrections for missed punches.
23. Responsible for working with Coos Bay Corps office manager to onboard volunteers and workforce development clients through Jobs Plus, Easter Seals, South Coast Employment Connect, Community Service Workers, and other agencies needing a job training site.
24. Attend The Salvation Army Coos Bay Advisory Meeting, generate and forecast financial reports and assist in Committees as needed.
25. Other written or verbal duties that may be assigned by the Corps Officers or their designate.

Physical Requirements:
• Able to lift and carry up to 50lbs for short distances. Occasional lifting in excess of 50lbs aided by appropriate equipment observing safety procedures.
• Able to climb a ladder and climb stairs.
• Able to walk, kneel, twist, push, pull, bend, stoop, sit, and stand for short/long periods of time.
• Have sense of smell and touch, identify colors, and have close vision. Have finger dexterity, be able to speak, read, and write in English.
Working Conditions:
Work is performed in areas with occasional loud noises, exposure to household cleansers, exposure to inside and outside temperature variations, exposure to dust and molds, while standing on cement floors. Proper Personal Protective Equipment is made available to all employees. May require operation of company owned vehicles.
