Main Street Skowhegan is seeking Outdoor Recreation Program Assistants (PAs) to join the team for 450-hour summer service terms designed for college students, high school graduates, or outdoor enthusiasts looking to build leadership skills, gain experience in program facilitation, and spend the summer leading outdoor adventures.
Program Assistants will assist with summer programs, whitewater boating and tubing, mountain biking, summer camps, and other outdoor activities that make the outdoors accessible to all. PAs will assist with the Basecamp Gear Lending Library. This is a great opportunity for recent graduates or students looking to take the next step toward a career in outdoor leadership, environmental education, or guiding.

Responsibilities
- Assist with planning and leading outdoor recreation programs, summer camps, and special events.
- Work directly with youth and families, providing instruction and guidance in paddling, hiking, mountain biking, and other summer activities.
- Help facilitate the Skowhegan Outdoors Basecamp Gear Library, ensuring community members have access to outdoor equipment.
- Promote Skowhegan Outdoors through community outreach, program registration, and participant engagement.
- Ensure programs run safely and smoothly by assisting with gear setup, logistics, and program execution.
- Participate in professional development trainings, such as Wilderness First Aid and outdoor leadership skills.
Qualifications
- High-school diploma and willingness to undergo a background check.
- Passion for outdoor recreation and community engagement.
- Experience or interest in activities like kayaking, mountain biking, hiking, or outdoor education.
- Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to work with youth and families.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and lift/move equipment (50 lbs.).
- Self-motivated, organized, and comfortable working as part of a team-oriented, fast-paced environment.
- Must be a United States citizen or lawful permanent resident.
