The Town of Freeport is seeking a full-time Assistant Planner. This position will play a role in advancing Planning Department goals by working closely with the Town Planner to assist in reviewing development applications, developing land use policy, and other planning-related functions. The position will also assist the Town Planner in implementing strategies and recommendations identified in the Town’s Comprehensive Plan, which is currently in the process of being updated.
Applicants should be able to work productively with a broad spectrum of the public, including various Town boards and committees. The ideal Assistant Planner candidate will bring a versatile skill set, be able to work on projects both independently and within a team, and have a creative and solutions-oriented approach. Candidates will have graduated from high school or equivalent, with a Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, community development or a related field preferred. While the Town is seeking candidates with formal education and experience in the field of municipal planning, candidates with other combinations of education and experience who can demonstrate proficiency in the qualifications listed above are encouraged to apply.
