Maine College of Art & Design (MECA&D) invites applications for an Adjunct Faculty position to teach a Fashion Illustration class in the Textile & Fashion Design (TFD) program during the 2025-26 academic year.

Position Summary And Responsibilities

Working closely with the Chair of TFD, the adjunct faculty member will develop and teach a Fashion Illustration class in AY 2025-26.

Individualized attention and effective teaching are hallmarks of a MECA&D education. Professionalism, a strong commitment to students, and the ability to motivate and educate students are foundational skills for our faculty.

Adjunct positions are contingent upon need each semester as determined by student enrollment levels, current course offerings, and demand driven by graduation requirements. Candidates for these positions report to the Textile & Fashion Design Program Chair. The teaching schedule may include daytime or evening hours.

Responsibilities

  • Teach one Fashion Illustration Course in the 2025-2026 academic year.
  • Follow program guidelines to ensure consistent content coverage and student experience.
  • Conduct assigned classes in the area of employment per the catalog description, the course syllabi, and the stipulations of the College.
  • Be reasonably accessible to students for course consultation and feedback through class time, one-on-one or group meetings, and/or e-mail.
  • Participate in program meetings called by the program chair, follow the guidelines of the Faculty Handbook.
  • Maintain accurate class attendance records and submit midterm and final course grades on Canvas, our learning management system.
  • Administer, grade, and provide feedback promptly to monitor student proficiency and progress through the course.
  • Observe, support, and enforce the regulations, policies, and programs of the Program and College.
  • Foster a positive working and learning environment free from harassment, prejudice, and/or bias.

Qualifications

An MFA in Fashion, Textiles, Fibers, or Illustration is preferred; a BFA with relevant experience will be considered. Candidates who meet the criteria of the Fashion Illustration course must have experience in Fashion Illustration and be well-versed in the technical, formal, and conceptual considerations of Fashion Illustration. All applicants must reside in, or be able to commute to, Portland, Maine, to deliver in-person instruction (typically two days a week).

Preferred Qualifications

  • An MFA is strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching with knowledge of the field of Fashion Illustration
  • A high level of skill and professional experience in Fashion Illustration
  • The ability and desire to teach an undergraduate Fashion Illustration course
  • Demonstrated skill in effective written and oral communication
  • Skilled in technically and conceptually critiquing art, able to challenge and encourage students to become better artists through critique and conversation
  • Experience working with students of culturally and socially diverse backgrounds

Compensation & Benefits

Compensation: $4,250 to $4,500 per 3-credit class
