Position Overview

The Music Studio Technician is a part-time, academic-year position reporting to the Program Chair of the Bob Crewe Program in Art & Music. The technician supports students across the College using professional recording studios, assisting with technical setup, troubleshooting, and creative development.

This student-centered position plays a vital role in maintaining the functionality and accessibility of our audio production facilities and in fostering a supportive environment for students working on music and sound-related projects, including those in Animation & Game Art.

Key Responsibilities

    Provide hands-on support to students in the recording studios, offering guidance on equipment setup, recording workflows, and troubleshooting.

    Assist students from various disciplines with sound design, voiceovers, Foley, and music production.

    Maintain and monitor the condition and performance of studio equipment.

    Manage digital project data and maintain best practices for file organization and backup.

    Reinforce course concepts by helping students apply them during studio use.

    Keep studio spaces clean, safe, and organized.

    Identify and report equipment issues to the Program Chair and coordinate repairs with IT/Facilities.

    Collaborate with faculty and provide feedback to support continual studio improvements.

What We’re Looking For

Qualifications:

    A bachelor’s degree in Audio Engineering, Music Production, Sound Design, or a related field is preferred. Equivalent professional experience will also be considered.

Experience:

    Experience working in a recording studio environment, ideally within a higher education or arts context.

    Teaching, mentoring, or tutoring experience is preferred.

    Experience with audio plug-ins such as Izotope RX and Melodyne.

    Proficiency in Pro Tools and familiarity with multiple DAWs.

    Understanding of musical instruments, including guitars, drums, and keyboards.

Skills & Abilities:

    Knowledge of studio recording workflows, patchbays, microphones, headphones, and control room equipment.

    Strong grasp of data management and file backup procedures.

    Strong interpersonal skills and a desire to support creative learning.

    Ability to work independently and collaboratively with students and faculty.

    Clear and effective communication, especially in technical instruction.

    Patience, approachability, and sensitivity to students of varying skill levels.

    Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

    Flexibility and willingness to support interdisciplinary projects.

Wages: $16.39 per hour

Hours: up to 12 per week from August through May
