Job Summary:
The Universal Banker is responsible for providing an exemplary customer experience working in a team environment while accurately and courteously assisting customers, processing transactions, selling and cross-selling Bank services, opening Business and Retail accounts, originating new consumer loans, and performing other branch functions as assigned. Contributes to the overall sales growth of the bank and supports the Bank’s strategic initiatives. Responsible for providing the highest level of Customer Service and adhering to the Bank’s Core Values and Service Standards.
Essential Functions:
Customer Experience:
- Provides the highest level of customer service.
- Deepens customer relationships by providing the best deposit solutions for our customers.
- Responsible for knowing the Bank’s range of products and services and identifying opportunities to refer customers to other lines of business and/or vendors that may provide needed services.
- Provides prompt, courteous, and efficient service to branch customers at the teller and drive-up windows, branch lobby and by telephone.
- Utilizes Customer Feedback process to support Service Standards.
- Actively participates in community events as a representative of the Bank.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Branch Operations:
- Opens new consumer and business accounts.
- Refers wealth management, loan and cash management opportunities to appropriate colleagues.
- Acts as a supervisor in the absence of the Branch Manager and Assistant Branch Manager.
- Maintains knowledge of and performs day-to-day branch operations; serves as a contact person to other departments regarding branch operations.
- Opens and closes the branch in accordance with established procedures.
- Oversees and assists with the overall operations of the branch including customer transactions, approve transactions requiring supervisor approval, signs official Bank checks to limit of authority, oversees branch cash orders, ensures branch cash records are maintained in accordance with established procedures as required, assists with cash verification duties.
- Oversees ATM and other branch settlement procedures to ensure timely and accurate settlement of cash, cash items, and other monthly reports.
- May be required to work in multiple locations regularly.
Loan Origination:
- Originates consumer loan applications according to established bank policy and procedures.
- May originate Home Equity Lines of Credit or Loans.
- Refers leads to commercial lender, mortgage loan originator, branch personnel, or 3rd party vendors as appropriate.
- Approves loans according to individual lending authority and bank policy.
Education, Skills, and Experience Required:
- Associates degree and two or more years of retail banking experience; or the equivalent combination of education and work experience.
- Prior sales experience preferred.
- Experience in consumer loan origination preferred.
- Familiarity with computer applications.
- Superior customer service, excellent communication and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to use sound judgment and decision-making skills.
- Be punctual with scheduled work and use time appropriately.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Ability to spend extended periods of time operating a computer keyboard and working at a computer monitor.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time while waiting on customers.
- Ability to lift cash boxes and currency/cash bags of approximately 20 pounds.
- Requires periodic travel to-and-from locations within the Bank’s geographic area.
- Workspaces are generally comfortable and pleasant.
