Description

Nurse Administrator

Washington County Community College is seeking applicants to fill a full-time Nurse Administrator position in our 18-month Nursing program. The academic year is mid-August to mid-May with a required additional summer session.  The Nurse Administrator holds a current, unencumbered registered nurse license to practice in Maine and maintains a full-time appointment within the Governing Organization. For pre-licensure nursing programs, the Nurse Administrator possesses a graduate degree with a concentration in nursing. This individual is experientially qualified, meets the requirements set forth by the Governing Organization, and undergoes appropriate orientation and mentorship for the role.

The Nurse Administrator is responsible for overseeing program administration, strategic planning, program development, implementation, and evaluation. Their primary role is to lead and manage the Nursing Education Program (NEP), ensuring its effectiveness and compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards. To maintain focus on program administration, the Nurse Administrator should not be assigned curriculum instructional duties that may detract from their leadership responsibilities.

The Board presumes that Nurse Administrators are appointed primarily to oversee the administrative responsibilities of the Nursing Education Program (NEP), rather than to serve as teaching faculty. The Nurse Administrator’s release time from instructional duties should align with national accreditation recommendations, acknowledging the distinct nature of their role. The college does assign up to six hours of instruction per week to the Nursing Administrator.

Any modifications to the Nurse Administrator’s workload that extend beyond the administrative responsibilities of the Nursing Education Program (NEP) must be reported to the Board by the Governing Organization. Factors to be considered in these adjustments may include, but are not limited to:

  • Student Enrollment: Impact of increased student numbers on administrative capacity.
  • Satellite Campuses: Oversight and management of multiple instructional sites.
  • Program Oversight: Additional responsibilities related to other academic programs.
  • Administrative Support: Availability and adequacy of administrative resources.
  • Teaching Responsibilities: Increased instructional workload.

Additionally, the Nurse Administrator is responsible for:

  • Overseeing the recruitment, professional development, evaluations, and performance reviews of all nursing faculty members.
  • Participating in statewide and national initiatives that support nursing education.
  • Serving as the Board-authorized official to sign licensure applications, ensuring compliance with NEP completion requirements. Exceptions require Board approval.
  • Establishing and maintaining community partnerships to align the NEP with employer and community needs.
  • Engaging in professional development activities that enhance expertise in administration, teaching, and nursing practice.
  • Assessing and determining the need for additional faculty release time for administrative duties.
  • Acting as the primary liaison between the NEP and the Board.
  • Ensuring the NEP has sufficient fiscal, physical, technical, and learning resources to support its stability, growth, and effectiveness.
  • Managing the budget and institutional resources in compliance with governing policies.
  • Making budgetary recommendations based on input from faculty and staff.

Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree in Nursing, and a Maine RN license are required. The successful applicant must have 3-5 years of recent experience in the practice of patient care. Teaching experience is preferred, including effective presentation skills. Demonstrated professionalism, strong interpersonal skills, and a collaborative work style are essential. The applicant must meet clinical facility immunization requirements.

Salary Range: MEA Faculty Unit, Level VI, up to $71,496.56, salary commensurate with credentials and experience. Benefits: 100% employer paid health, dental and life insurance for employees (spouse/domestic partner/dependent coverage also available), vision insurance, choice between Maine Public Employees Retirement System or TIAA CREF in lieu of social security, annually 2 personal days, 9 sick days, professional development, and free tuition within the Maine Community College System for employee, spouse, and qualifying dependents.

Application Process: Please visit WCCC's website, https://www.wccc.me.edu/about-wccc/news-info/employment/ to send cover letter, resume, unofficial transcripts, and a list of three professional references. The position is open until filled.

WCCC is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive and non-discriminatory environment for all employees.
