SUMMARY
YCCC is seeking an instructor(s) who are skilled and experienced in manual precision machining, CNC programming and machining, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, and metrology. The ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse student population to implement effective learning strategies, deliver high quality instruction, assess student learning, and advise students.
Instructors can expect support in the transition from industry to a classroom environment. Potential for daytime and/or evening hours.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Prepare for and deliver instruction and perform teaching-related activities.
- Manage the classroom/laboratory.
- Develop curriculum and monitor and revise as appropriate to maintain course effectiveness; assist in program evaluation.
- Manage equipment, supplies, and materials.
- Assess student performance and advise students on academic issues.
- Collaborate with advisory committee in program area.
- Attend departmental and institutional meetings.
- Promote the education/training program, participate in efforts to recruit and retain students.
- Support student organizations and activities.
- Develop relationships with business and industry.
- Complete program evaluation and follow-up.
- Maintain certification, continue professional development, and stay current in field.
- Professional self-starter with team motivated abilities.
- Comply with college policies and procedures and department guidelines.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED IN THE POSITION
Minimum Qualifications:
- Five years (10,000 hours) of paid non-teaching occupational experience in the machining field including CNC and Manual Machining, OR
- Associate's degree in CNC and/or IMT PLUS four years (8,000 hours) of paid non-teaching occupational experience.
- Included in the above experience, must have a minimum of one year (2,000 hours) of occupational experience within the last five years.
Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field PLUS two years (4,000 hours) of paid non-teaching occupational experience.
- Journeyman status in CNC and/or IMT.
- Work experience in CNC and/or Tool & Die.
- Proficiency experience in mechanical and electrical areas.
- Experience teaching adults.
Other Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Education and coursework in Precision Machining Technology or closely related discipline.
- Knowledge of current industrial machine tool technology and manufacturing processes.
- Ability to obtain and maintain NIMS certification in areas of instructional responsibility and OSHA-10 or equivalent.
- Teaching experience that includes a demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence and improving student learning; with recent college level teaching experience at a community college being helpful.
- Must have an overall understanding of computer numeric controls and experience with mechanical repair techniques, understanding of robotics, principles of fluid power, electricity, automated systems, welding, and millwright skills; computer numeric controls.
- Must strive to meet all reasonable deadlines and demands in this field.
- Strongly demonstrate stated proficiency in machinery repair, blueprint reading, troubleshooting, operational understanding for applications in both mechanical and electrical areas, and computer numerical control.
- Must be a self-starter with team motivated abilities.
- It is essential that all instructors have basic computer skills to be able to utilize various software systems for student correspondence and grades.
- Ability to work with a diverse group of related students.
- Skilled in teaching a wide range of related subjects.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Effective problem-solving skills.
- Flexible schedule to accommodate day, and/or evening students.
