The Department of Agriculture, Conservation, & Forestry, Bureau of Parks and Lands, has a current vacancy for a Park Manager II at Ferry Beach State Park in Saco, Maine.

LOCATION INFORMATION: Ferry Beach State Park in Saco is a coastal day park with beach access, a picnic area, nature trails, and a nature center.

BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: This position is the onsite manager of Ferry Beach State Park. Responsibilities include managing the operations and maintenance of park facilities, supervising natural resource protection and rule compliance activities, providing interpretive service to the public, directing emergency management procedures, supervising and training 6 park employees, managing lifeguards and water safety, adherence to cash handling policy, contract administration and other administrative duties, serving the public and working closely with local groups and volunteers.

Representative Tasks Include

  • Managing and planning all activities of Ferry Beach State Park including general maintenance, public use, safety, and staffing to promote and maintain a safe, well-organized, and productive facility for public recreation.
  • Hiring, directing, overseeing, and evaluating employees and ensuring that goals and objectives are met.
  • Informing Park users of conduct and use guidelines to ensure user safety and to protect the resources within the park.
  • Inspecting facilities, personnel, and equipment to ensure proper care, maintenance, appearance, and utilization.
  • Investigating, analyzing, and solving problems to create an effective operation and promote enjoyment of park facilities.
  • Collecting, summarizing, and recording information on standardized forms to document activities and provide information.
  • Investigating and reporting unusual occurrences in the park to determine cause, effect, and necessary corrective measures.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: An Associate’s Degree Recreation Management or a related field and a minimum of one (1) year of experience in park operations or a similar related activity, to include supervisory or managerial experience. Directly related experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis. For the purposes of this classification, a year is defined as being the equivalent of a 25-week or more season.

The following general information pertains to seasonal employment at Maine State Parks:

  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older (Lifeguards must be 16 or older)
  • Applicants must be U.S. Citizens or have legal authority to work in the U.S.
  • Housing is provided in the Penobscot River Corridor and the Allagash Wilderness Waterway
  • In general, housing is not available at the other parks
  • Most positions are scheduled to work 40 hours each week, with weekends and some holidays required
  • Parks seasonal positions are required to wear uniforms which are provided by the agency
