The Department of Agriculture, Conservation, & Forestry, Bureau of Parks and Lands, has a current vacancy for a Park Manager III in Weld, Maine.

BRIEF PARK DESCRIPTION: This position manages and supervises the operations, maintenance, and staff of Mount Blue State Park. Mt. Blue State Park is Maine's largest state park, encompassing approximately 8,000 acres in two sections separated by Webb Lake. A campground in the Webb Beach section has 136 wooded sites a short walk from a sandy beach and picnic area. Visitors can swim, launch and rent boats, and walk on trails near the lake. During summer months, park staff routinely offer canoe trips, walks, and nature programs. A Nature Center features hands-on exhibits and displays.

Across the lake from the Webb Beach section is the centerpiece of the park, 3,187-foot Mt. Blue, a popular day-hike. Visitors also enjoy walks and picnics on Center Hill. Mountain bikers, equestrians, and ATV riders can experience 25 miles of challenging, multi-use trails. The park's extensive trail system in winter supports snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing. Families come to sled at Center Hill and skate on an outdoor ice rink at park headquarters.

BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: This position will be responsible for managing the very sophisticated park facilities which utilize complex potable water systems, pumped sewage systems, and campsites with electrical and water hookups, supervising employees, providing educational programs to visitors and school groups, serving the public, and working closely with local groups and volunteers. This position will at times work with other BPL staff to provide cooperative oversight of BPL properties other than Mt Blue State Park and may be assigned to other regional responsibilities.

Representative tasks include supervising park operations; developing positive community relations; supervising park maintenance; managing park interpretation and promotion; providing park administration; supervising protection and rule enforcement activities; supervising 12 employees; directing emergency management activities; and supervising all staff training.

Housing: Onsite housing is currently available and when housing is available it is required that the Park Manager lives there. In the event that housing becomes unlivable or unavailable, there will no longer be a requirement to live at the park.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: An Associate’s Degree in Recreation Management or a related field and a minimum of two years of experience in parks operations or a similar related activity, to include supervisory or managerial experience. Directly related experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis. For the purposes of this classification, a year is defined as being the equivalent of a 25-week or more season.
