Field Engineer :
Primary Responsibility : Estimate quantity take offs for drilling and blasting bids. Production estimates of these quantities are done by others. Field surveys with GPS equipment to establish top of rock elevations. Field coordination with blasters for scope of work evaluation of bid versus actual work. Project engineering necessary to manage percent complete of invoices as well as costs.
Essential Duties :
- Will participate in the MDB safety culture by following all company safety policies and practices.
- Utilize Carlson Takeoff Software to perform quantity take offs for drilling and blasting bids.
- Communication with MDB trusted customers to check quantity take offs and mutually agree to the scope of work on bidding projects.
- Perform field surveys with total station or GPS survey equipment to create a top of rock surface by locating ledge that has been stripped of overburden or by locating probe holes with depth to ledge determined.
- Maintain clear, accurate and timely job files of all projects that are bid or ongoing.
- Perform regular job site surveys to determine percent complete for quantities and costs on projects.
- Maintain professional representation to develop and foster customer relationships.
- Be able to work with blasters, superintendents, and division managers, including listening to questions, researching answers and providing the support for them to improve performance of their job position.
- Provide leadership in job start up planning to review the scope of work with the blaster in charge. Project start up items : Budget, blast plan, schedule, schedule of values, grab and go, submittals, material purchases, subcontract technical terms negotiations.
- Provide training, guidance, direction and leadership to others to ensure work is performed to MDB standards and customer expectations.
- Participate in monthly job status meetings to assist Divisional Managers to determine if jobs are invoiced accurately or if they are under or overbilled and provide reasons why.
- Monitor scopes of work, recognizing scope changes, and create change order documents.
- Work with the administrative team and Division Manager to determine monthly quantities for invoicing purposes.
- Assist Division Manager with owner correspondence.
- All other duties as assigned.
