Job Description:


Our mental health clinicians provide diagnostic assessments, individual child, adult, family therapy, and group work at our office, in client’s homes, schools, and the local community.  The Outpatient Counseling program serves adults, older adults, children, adolescents and their families with mental health, substance use and co-occurring disorders, individuals who are at risk of serious emotional disturbance, have or have serious mental illness. 


Duties include:


  • Assess individual and family situations.
  • Willingness to gain cultural/spiritual insight as pertains to client serving
  • Understand and implement a systems perspective.
  • Provide a comprehensive level assessment of identified clients and family needs, which includes history taking, mental health status evaluation, risk assessment, diagnostic formulation using the most recent DSM.
  • Formulate and implement treatment goals and objectives.
  • Work with community representatives toward development and implementation of treatment process.
  • Understand and implement, in a regular and dependable fashion, family therapy techniques and practices, group treatment and individual therapy when clinically indicated.  Schedule home visits accordingly. Travel to client homes and other community locations as needed/ applicable for job duties. Flexible scheduling incorporating both client and professional needs.
  • As liaison between program and family, communicate needs and perspectives effectively.
  • As appropriate, demonstrate willingness and ability to supervise social worker students.
  • Offer clinical perspective as participant in discussions regarding proposal development, and implementation of program changes that respond to the changing needs of clients served.
  • Implement trauma informed principles
  • Utilize the above mentioned tools to provide quality diagnostic assessments
  • Ability to work with adults, children of all ages is integral
  • Use of and demonstration of knowledge of evidenced based practices
  • Must complete all client documentations required.


Job Requirements


  • Maintain a valid state driver’s license.
  • Strong computer skills- experience using electronic client records, Outlook, Word, Excel, and being able to navigate throughout computer applications is needed
  • Two years direct clinical experience providing therapy to children, adolescents and families preferred
  • 4 years minimum requirement of total work experience in the social Service field, before and after Masters level
  • Valid clinical license per Maine State, maintained by employee
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Experience working with multiple agencies
  • Creative and caring
  • Strong children’s advocate
  • Able to be organized and to prioritize workload
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Self-motivated
  • Preference will be given to professionals who have experience working with multicultural populations.
  • Preferred at least 2 years of work with evidenced based trauma practices
  • Course work in family systems principles and family development and/or two (2) years of combined pre- or post-graduate experience in work with children and families.
  • Licensed as an LCPC, LCSW, LMFT, LMSW-cc, LCPC-conditional, or LMFT-cc.
