Job Description
The Assistant Training Officer is a key position at MAINE MARITIME ACADEMY, responsible for delivering high-quality instruction to our students. This role requires a strong understanding of shipboard systems and equipment, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and deliver engaging lesson plans for classroom and laboratory classes.
- Supervise and mentor students in the use of bridge and deck machinery/equipment, tools, and safety equipment.
- Collaborate with the Senior Deck Training Officer to develop and implement curriculum changes.
- Conduct regular evaluations of student performance and provide constructive feedback.
Desired Skills and Qualifications:
- Proven experience in teaching and mentoring students in a maritime-related field.
- Strong knowledge of shipboard systems and equipment, including celestial navigation and watch-keeping/bridge resource management.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
