Job Summary
We are seeking a highly qualified individual to fill the position of Ocean Transportation Professor at the MAINE MARITIME ACADEMY. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in ocean transportation, extensive teaching experience, and excellent communication skills.
Main Responsibilities:
- Teach undergraduate-level courses in ocean transportation, including ship handling, navigation, and safety.
- Contribute to the development of curriculum materials, lesson plans, and assessments.
- Mentor students in academic and career-related matters.
- Participate in departmental and faculty seminars to promote interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Engage in scholarship and research activities aligned with the academy's mission and goals.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in a relevant field.
- A valid USCG license with applicable STCW endorsements.
- Unlimited Tonnage Oceans License.
- Experience with small vessel operations and lifeboatman certificate.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree or other advanced degree in a relevant field.
- Experience teaching nautical skills in a higher-education setting.
- Familiarity with electronic and digital advancements in maritime operations.
Working Conditions:
- Typical classroom and office environment are in multi-story buildings with elevator access.
- Work in labs and training cruises may require climbing on ladders and gangways, lifting and carrying materials.
