Position Summary:
We are seeking a dynamic and customer-oriented individual to join our team in an important dual Store Support role providing both counter sales representative and back-up driver (Class B w/Hazmat) services. In this position, you bring value by providing product knowledge and technical expertise at our store. You bring additional value by occasionally supporting our logistics and transportation needs as a back-up Class B driver.

Inside Sales (~70%)
This role is pivotal in assisting our customers both in-person and on the phone with identifying product needs and locating merchandise, ensuring that customers have a positive experience and find the products they need. In this role, you will handle sales transactions, manage inventory, and support merchandise displays.
Relief Driver (~30%)
In your backup capacity as a Class B Driver, you will be responsible for delivering products to our customers, ensuring timely and safe delivery in compliance with all regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Address customer inquiries and guide customers in product selection
- Process sales transactions efficiently and accurately, including handling cash and card payments securely
- Assist in managing inventory levels, restocking shelves, labelling, and organizing merchandise displays to enhance customer experience
- Prepare and load products for delivery, ensuring safe transport and compliance with delivery schedules
- Serve as a backup Class B driver, operating branded company vehicles to deliver products to customers in a timely and safe manner
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the sales area and vehicle used for deliveries to uphold company standards
- Collaborate with team members to optimize workflow and ensure the store runs smoothly during peak hours

To be successful, a qualified candidate must:
- Be at least 21 years of age or older
- Have a minimum of a high school diploma (or its equivalent); additional education or certifications in sales, logistics, or related fields is a plus.
- Possess a valid Class B driver's license with a clean driving record and ability to meet company driving standards. Preference will be given to qualified applicants with a current HazMat endorsement with airbrakes. However, candidates without such endorsement will gladly be considered, but would be expected to attain the HazMat endorsement within their first 90 days. All qualified candidates must possess a minimum of one (1) year of commercial driving experience; consideration in lieu of experience can be made for candidates who completed driving school training within the previous four (4) years.
- Show proven experience in retail sales or customer service; experience in a warehouse or logistics environment is a plus. Preference will be given to qualified candidates who possess industry and related product knowledge, and who possess experience handling compressed gases. Preference will be given to qualified candidates who have (or have the ability to learn) knowledge about welding, gases, and hard goods. Prior welding/gas experience preferred but not required. Ability to analyze a customer’s situation and help resolve customer problems is required.
- Show strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively interact with customers and team members.
- Meet all physical qualification standards imposed by regulations for drivers.
- Be able to lift heavy items and perform physical tasks as required for loading and unloading deliveries (see physical requirements section)
- Basic computer, order entry, and math skills (for processing transactions and managing cash registers effectively) required.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to maintain accurate inventory records and sales transactions.
- Be able to work overtime when necessary.
Physical Requirements:
Can read and speak the English language sufficiently to converse with the general public, to understand highway traffic signs and signals in the English language, to respond to official inquiries, and to make entries on reports and records.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to see, speak and hear.
- Must be able to drive hazardous cargo for up to 8 hours; Frequent bending is also required.
- Frequent sitting and standing, walking, using hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; may stoop, kneel, or crouch.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Ability to perform very heavy work—routinely lift 25lbs to 75lbs, and occasionally lift 76lbs to greater than 100lbs.
- Must be able to work outdoors in temperatures ranging from -10 to over 100 degrees.
- Ability to smell/hear leaking gas from cylinders.
