Job Description
The University of Maine at Presque Isle is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Biology beginning September 1, 2025 for an academic year (9 month) appointment. The successful candidate will teach the Anatomy and Physiology two-course sequence with lab which serves biology and a variety of allied health majors. Teaching responsibilities may also include human biology, comparative physiology, or other courses in the candidate's areas of expertise. Responsibilities will encompass course instruction and development, advising, engaging in campus and professional service, and fostering opportunities for undergraduate experiential learning and undergraduate research. We seek a dedicated professional with a passion for teaching and a commitment to career growth. The successful candidate will join an engaged group of science faculty including environmental science, chemistry, agricultural science, computer science, nursing, and allied health in a collegial and supportive small university.
Based on the qualifications and experience of the successful applicant, the minimum salary for Assistant Professor is $62,222, commensurate with education and experience. Key Responsibilities include (not limited to) :
- Deliver a minimum of four courses (12 contact hours), or equivalent, per semester at both introductory and advanced levels, including both lecture and laboratory sessions.
- Employ a blend of traditional and innovative modalities (competency-based, online, hyflex, and / or in-person).
- Actively contribute to the academic community through campus and professional service endeavors.
- Assist in curriculum development, managing laboratory spaces, and recruitment to the undergraduate biology program.
- Develop research initiatives that involve undergraduate students, potentially leading to course-based research, capstone experiences, independent projects, conference presentations, publications, and extramural funding.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities : Effective communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to collaborate within the academic community and engage with external stakeholders; proficiency in utilizing innovative teaching methods and technology to enhance student learning experiences, including online instruction; laboratory, research, and other skill sets necessary for teaching and undergraduate research; willingness to travel occasionally.
Required Qualifications :
Preferred : Candidates who can initiate a modest undergraduate research program in biomedical sciences within their first year, to participate in the Maine INBRE (https : / / maineinbre.org / ) program and eventually apply for federal funding to advance this research.
