Maine School Administrative District No. 27 serves 814 students in grades PreK-12 from St. Francis, St. John Plantanion, Wallagrass, New Canada and Fort Kent, ME, location of America's First Mile. The district has three (3) schools, the Fort Kent Elementary School(PreK-6), Valley Rivers Middle School (7-8), and Fort Kent Community High School (9-12).
To learn more about our schools, we highly encourage all potential applicants to view our Recruitment Brochure.Position Purpose: Under the direct supervision of the Superintendent of Schools, and in cooperation with the Elementary School Principal, to provide leadership and build relationships with the students of the school, while promoting the educational development and achievement of students in accordance with MSAD27 policies, administrative procedures, rules and regulations, and applicable law.
- To provide leadership in program development and improvement, as well as in professional staff development
- To serve as Principal in the absence of the Principal.
Essential Functions:
- Assist student support team efforts through the implementation and establishment of an Multi Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework, to increase attendance, elevate student engagement, lessen concerns about behavior, improve school climate, enhance social and emotional well-being, and boost academic performance for all students.
- Develop and maintain systems of behavior management of students for the school, including, but not limited to Restorative Practices and Positive Behavior Supports and Interventions.
- Work with the district attendance coordinator to collect and respond to attendance data specific to chronic absences and truancies.
- Lead behavior and attendance related team meetings.
- Manage student activities and events.
- Organize and maintain the school's activities and events calendar.
- Develop family and community engagement efforts for the school.
- Assists in the development and administration of school programs consistent with school district goals and objectives.
- Provides leadership and direction to staff with regard to the ongoing evaluation and improvement curricular and extracurricular activities.
- Lead student/staff safety and guidance initiatives within the school.
- Promotes a school environment that is safe and conducive to individualized instruction, cooperative curriculum development, and student learning.
- Assist the principal and athletic director with class schedules, master schedules, extracurricular activity schedules.
- Assists in ensuring that Board policies and procedures are implemented and followed at the school.
- Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings, or by conducting research.
- Encourages staff to continue to grow professionally and to experiment with new approaches or strategies to teaching, especially as they relate to MTSS initiatives for the whole child.
- Assists in coordinating the work of school staff and school district program leaders to develop and implement instructional programs and teaching practices.
- Assists in the recruitment and selection of employees, the proper maintenance of employee personnel files, the administration of collective bargaining agreements, corrective action, and other human resource issues.
- Involves staff in the evaluation of programs and the planning of new programs.
- Encourages parental involvement in students' education and ensures effective communication with students and parents.
- Ensures that student conduct and attendance conforms with district policies and our Core Values.
- Assists in the budgetary and financial affairs of the school consistent with school district policies.
Additional Duties:
- Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Superintendent and other Valley Unified administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

- Prioritizes relationships building.

- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education.

Qualifications Profile: Certification/License:
- Master’s Degree in Education, School Counseling or Educational Leadership
- Certification Attainment: 045: Assistant Building Administrator, 075: School Counselor, or 040: Building Administrator (Preferred)
- Successful background, criminal records, fingerprinting and reference check
- Additional Certifications are preferred
Experience:
- Extensive successful teaching experience at the Elementary School level, preferably in more than one subject area and grade level.
- Successful experience as an administrator in the Elementary School level is preferred.
