Overview
The Maine School of Science & Mathematics, Maine's STEM magnet school offering a challenging curriculum in a supportive residential setting, invites applications for a full-time Mathematics Instructor to begin in August, 2025. (We will consider a February 2025 start date for the right candidate.) This is an opportunity to join an outstanding faculty engaging students with high academic potential in an exciting learning environment.
MSSM Mathematics faculty provide a strong foundation in traditional high school mathematics, and beyond. All students should complete Calculus prior to graduation, and many complete courses such as Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, and/or more advanced Mathematics topics. Most MSSM Mathematics courses allow students to earn college credit through nearby University of Maine at Presque Isle.
At MSSM, many of our students love to hone their skills by competing on its Math Team. Math Department faculty and students actively participate in the Maine Association of Math Leagues (MAML) each year, regularly winning school and team trophies.

The Mathematics Instructor will be responsible for teaching four sections of mathematics, likely a mixture of beginning and advanced courses to highly motivated students. Full-time faculty are also responsible for teaching a two-week January Term course and advising one student club or activity.
Responsibilities
A minimum of a Master's Degree in Mathematics or a related field and at least two years of exemplary teaching experience in a formal, academic setting. The ability to inspire students, excellent communication and organizational skills, and a willingness and desire to work with high school students in a close-knit, residential community.

Responsibilities
- Instruction: Teach four (4) high-quality Math courses (typically a mixture of Algebra II/Trigonometry, Before Calculus, and/or Calculus or higher (LinAlg/DiffEq);
- Math Team: Participate in the MSSM Math Team program, including supervision, mathematics competitions, and other department/school activities;
- Communication: Communicate in a professional and timely manner to students and parents concerning student academic performance;
- Collaboration: Collaborate with a world-class teaching team, emphasizing shared objectives and connections; and
- Professionalism: Exhibit professionalism within and outside the department, acting as an enthusiastic cheerleader for Maine’s nationally-ranked, magnet high school.
